Changing what you cook IS a great way to regain enthusiasm. My favourite aspect of cooking is devising how to get something nice from the ingredients on 'reduced for quick sale' in Waitrose. Having to THINK about it is satisfying.Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

NO, I get the odd day but on the whole I loved cooking.
Today I made bread [rolls and a round loaf], plus blind baked some pastry tarts and made onion, potato, tomato tarts for tea, and we had these with salad and home made oven chips [the slimming world way].
Just waiting for cringe-factor to finish, then having some toast with home made jam for supper - whilst we watch another episode of The Wire.
I find that cooking seasonally; ie look at what you have available and use it - tends to inspire me. I'd never have used pumpkin in a noodle dish but I did for lunch today and it was splendid.

Wow that is a tough cookie and must be hard to swallow. Have you thought of charging the students for the use of your kitchen a couple of nights a week. Quite sure they would regard it as a treat and you and OH could go out for some pub grub.

I am attempting this for dinner tonight.
Chicken Stir Fry
Ingredients:
4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
3 tablespoons cornflour
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
3 tablespoons cooking oil, divided
2 cups broccoli florets
1 cup sliced celery (1/2 inch pieces)
1 cup thinly sliced carrots
1 small onion, cut into wedges
1 cup water
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules (1 stock cube)
Directions
Cut chicken into 1/2-in. strips;
place in a resealable plastic bag.
Add cornflour and toss to coat.
Combine soy sauce, ginger and garlic powder;
add to bag and shake well.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes. (ha... as if theres time for that)
In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of oil;
stir-fry chicken until no longer pink, about 3-5 minutes.
Remove and keep warm.
Add remaining oil;
stir- fry broccoli, celery, carrots and onion for 4-5 minutes or until crisp-tender.
Add water and bouillon.
Return chicken to pan.
Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
(For the cups I use approx 237ml in my measuring jug)

Never get fed up with cooking, love planning my meals based on what veggies I have available (previously mainly from the veg box but these days, our own). I enjoy the challenge of not wasting any food and using up left overs in other meals another day. I can understand if you feed a large family they could end up seeming ungrateful so maybe take suggestions and get them involved. Usually it's just the two of us but I also love it when OH goes out and I can spend ages in the kitchen cooking something which he doesn't like much. Bliss.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Maybe we are all on 'cookery program' overload?......there are so many on the television these days, everywhere - shops, supermarkets, they all advertise how to cook- books, magazines, flyers, courses, etc!
count the number of times in the average day you see recipes or adverts for cooking this that and every thing else!
just a thought really

Only just caught up with this thread. Yes, I feel the same. I really like cooking but cannot be bothered at the moment. Time to use up all those frozen leftovers methinks. I can't even be bothered to make up my lunches for work. I haven't made any chutneys for Christmas presents, or anything. Tonight, I can't even be bothered to eat anything for tea. Just one of those days I guess. Sorry to be so down. Thanks for listening.Bernie aka DDL

I do my best cooking when I'm starving. If I'm not hungry I'm just not interested.
