  • Whats burying pears in my flower beds?

I have a bit of a mystery. I have found a number of pears buried or partly buried in the flower beds around the garden. Some of the beds are raised to a height of 18" off the ground.

We do have a pear tree, and we do back onto open countryside. We also have squirrals as well.

The pears are whole in appearance. Any idea's??

I thought that, but some of them have been placed and "Scratched" over in places that foxes could not get too.

        I'm thinking squirrels too.
Mine steals the garden twine holding up my grapevines and I've caught him trying to pinch 3 metres of fleece (wrapped around my tree fern). He looked so pleased with himself!! We now call him Mr Naughty.

Yes, I'd also go with squirrels, I saw one in our garden with a whole apple in its mouth, am surprised it didn't go head over t**.............

I think it's my friends sheepdog Tess! she steals the pears off our inbetween neighbours tree and hides them (well those that she cant quite manage to eat that is!) AND she manages to get into the tiny pop hole in their chicken house and eats the eggs too!

            Naughty Tess!

My mum put a rat trap in my garden after several of the shallot bulbs kept being disturbed. It was one of those giant mouse trap types. A couple of days later it was no-where to be found.
I can only imagine there's a rat scurrying about with a rat trap clipped to his tail!

Squirral it is then by a majority vote. I will have to keep an eye out and see if I can spot him, or her of course.

                    Cheeky boy!
We discovered Mr Naughty should actually be Mrs Naughty last spring, when we saw her up close and noticed the 'udder' development on her undercarriage. And we know its the same squirrel because she has a notch of fluff missing from the tip of her tail, so she's quite distinctive. She also likes to sun herself by stretching out on our pergola - bless her
