They are just companies advertising their products but are related to that particular thread so if you have set a thread about composting for example, there would be 2 or 3 adverts for companies selling compost bins or similar. Gosh I'm easily pleased but its excellent nevertheless.

That's down to 'Google AdSense' which provides targeted advertising, tailored by keywords within the thread. You can set up similar if you have a blog on 'blogspot' and other sites. You (or in this case the Vine) get paid every time somebody clicks on an advert.
