Can't say I loathe any really. I love feeling Christmassy so even the cheesey cr*p ones have a place. Judy Garland singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is lovely.

We got married the weekend before Christmas and had carols instead of hymns, in a totally candlelit church - really wonderful.

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

Last year Hazel reminded me of this one...

YouTube - Steeleye Span - Gaudete

Gaudete by Steeleye Span - love it!! I listened to it almost as many times as Elvis 'Blue Christmas'

My favourite has to be 'Fairytale of New York', but it has to be by the Pogues, the boy band version was rubbish. I also love 'Once in Royal David's City' because my daughter was born late on Christmas Eve and a Male Voice Choir made up of doctors and medical staff had been touring the wards and came and sang it outside my labour room door. OH had disappeared with a handful of coins to phone relatives and there was just me and a student midwife and the new (10 minutes old) baby. It had been the midwife's first delivery and she came back on Christmas morning to see my daughter, even though she'd managed to be on leave over the holiday. I had to ask her if it had really happened, the whole thing was very dreamlike (that's what gas 'n' air does for you).

Like many others anything by Cliff Richard gets on my nerves. But my real ire is reserved for John and Yoko, all that 'Happy Christmas, war is over', wailing. Well yes, it would be nice if all life's ills miraculously vanished, but it's Christmas, for heaven's sake, let's have a day off and worry about it all again on Boxing Day.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Cannot STAND Slade "Merry Christmas Everybody." Reminds me of a particularly bad time in my life.
LOVE "Hark the Herald Angels Sing". Always want to try and do the descant bit but never can because my throat closes up with emotion!!
You sure it isn't because that descant is REALLY high (and no 'climbing', you have to HIT that top note out of nowhere!)?
for a tear-jerker, not sure of the exact title but "I'm not dreaming of a white Christmas, all I'm dreaming of the whole night long is a peaceful one".
I REALLY CANNOT STAND that thing by the Pogues that seems so popular. It's just plain NASTY!
Favurite carol "Christians awake, salute the happy morn". I was told that my Grandad (who I never met) used to wake the family on Christmas Day by singing it as he made the early morning cuppa.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

FTONY by The Pogues, just adore it.
Mistletoe and Wine by Sir Cliff, but only because it brings back fantastic memories of being in a car, and my daughter singing that immortal line:
"With logs on the fire, and pigs in the tree"
                      Bob Leponge
Life's disappointments are so much harder to take if you don't know any swear words.

It's funny- but some songs remind me of childhood Christmas and others of teenage parties and then of my own children's christmas times

                        'Grandad' was my pet hate.....ahhhhhh......

OMG...I'm humming it to myself now

                                Thanks for the answer

I had that tune stuck in my head for days last week and couldn't remember who sung it.
