... meanwhile, as the flood-waters were subsiding outside, various soggy parishioners, and assorted visitors, were sloshing their way into the welcoming hostelry. The carpet was now totally ruined and would need replacing, and not for the first time in recent years. The smell of damp welly-boots together with the dubious combined aromas of wet dogs, chickens, geese and a small mud-caked pony, were doing nothing for the ambience of the place, but, at the same time, were not dampening the spirits of those that had sought refuge in the Gardeners' Rest.
Piskie and Snowdrop had recovered their composure, most of the fellas had regained their trousers after the waxing session, and now Bobleponge and Rhona were serving up steaming bowls of Goat Casserole, ably assisted by Aunties Mo and Flum, and the place was now becoming much calmer.
Pigletwillie had managed to borrow the local Cricket Club's chairs in order that everyone could have a seat, and the WI had very kindly provided extra plates and cuttlery. No one had managed to acquire additional glasses, however, so many folk were merely swigging from the nearest flagon or demi-john, regardless of it's contents, and the resultant singing was getting a little louder by the minute.

.....a bus load of SnowDrops mates turned up with 10 gallons of home brewed scrumpy.
"Come in lads, lets get this party started" called a voice from the bar.
More wood was put on the fire from the pile that Wayne had brought with him, Ollie handed home made Crunches round and the lads made themselves at home.
"Who's for goat casserole" asked Rhona, "I'll have some please" said..............

"Order, order" cried Nicos, in authoritative tones, " I need to remind all you grapes why we are here in the Gardener's rest tonight. I am the Linda Snell of the Grapevine and we are all trying to organise this winter's equivalent of the annual Ambridge pantomime!!"
A few grapes were not paying attention and continued to drink and guffaw in the corner - but they soon stopped when they encountered a cold hard stare from...Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?
