  • I'm a little bit annoyed

    With myself more than anything.

Had a busy morning playing and feeding Bean, providing a place to sleep for the guy (on me) and so on. Got ready to go out at about 2pm.

"Unlocked" the car and put Bean in his car seat.

Walked round to the drivers door and noticed that the armrest was wide open (where I keep my CD's), as was the cup holder, the glove box, the little drawer by the side of the steering wheel, the centre console bit under the stereo - receipts all over the place (I lazily chuck them in the centre console bit), the sunglasses holder above the rear view mirrow...

I then noticed that the receipts were all over the place and thought to myself - "hang on"

Yep someone else had been in my car - and I didn't invite them.

    Well, maybe just a bit.

I noticed that the lock hadn't been tampered with - no windows had been broken. I must have left it unlocked.

    D'oh!

Luckily I don't keep anything valuable in the car - apart from maybe my Ray Ban sunglasses, but they didn't seem interested in those.

Equally - they apparently don't have any taste in music as they left the lot.

All they'd taken was the change I keep for car parks etc in the little drawer thing. I think there was a fiver and some shrapnel - maybe £8-9 max.

Wasn't going to bother reporting it, but LadyWayne insisted - that's another story.

Moral of the story - make sure your car is definitely locked even if you have one of the key-fob thingy's. Oh, that and don't leave anything of value in the car.

We had a car taken off our drive about 15 year ago we were gutted, we never got the car or our grandkids car seats back. Since then I'm a bit paranoid about checking the doors even though we didn't lave that one unlocked.

Glad to hear they left your car undamaged apart from taking the cash.

Glad they left your music & 'Bans, I'm sure they're more important to you than the cash. AND, you leaving it unlocked has saved you the painful and costly business of having windows and/or locks repaired! Every cloud...etc

Indeed - that's what I said to the lady on the phone at the copper-me-bobs. She also asked if they'd left anything behind, or if there were any traces of blood etc. I replied - "no, I didn't catch them in the act". We laughed.

Had our car stolen from the drive about 16 years ago. I had an awful lot of stuff in it at the time.
There was my grandsons car seat, my gardening tools as I had been tidying up my grandparents grave. My camera, as I had been taking pics of said grandson and 8 rolls of wallpaper and some curtain material as I was decorating the house for my daughters up-coming wedding.
Hard lesson learned, never leave anything in your car.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I am terrible at not locking the car (although I hate it so be quite glad if it got half-inched).
And OH even left the front door keys in the door the other week - ALL NIGHT!

glad they didn't do any damage to your car, £8ish is quite lucky it would have cost you more in excess & increased premiums if they'd done some proper damage,

It must be a Surrey thing (or a horsey thing?) as my car is also so messy I wouldn't notice. There already are receipts all over the place and don't even ask about the back seat (there is one, allegedly...). Glad no damage done, Wayne.
