Google has made "experts" of us all - it will oft be called upon to back up someone's argument, or validate a point of view.

How much less argumentative do you think we'd be as a result?

Shall we set a Google-free day (and all other search engine type things)?

To be honest I probably go straight to the site I want more often than I Googlify it.
Like imdb.com, wikipedia, dictionary.com, allrecipes.com etc. (not forgetting the Vine!)

I only use Google for something completely random

If we were all born with the godgiven gift of knowing everything. I, for one, would prefer not to have been born at all.

I can understand it making us stupid, sort of, because I do tend to skim through articles to the relevant points, but then when the main source of information was the library I'd skim there too. In fact I seem to recall that skim reading to extract the information you needed was considered a 'study skill' when I was a student, so perhaps we are all becoming better prepared for higher level studies? I'm an obsessive reader though, so have never got out of the habit of reading books properly either. As for living without Google I very much doubt that I could, I came to this internet thingy quite late in life, so have managed without it, but what would be the point in wondering about something fairly obscure, struggling to find information which would otherwise be at my finger-tips, or even being unable to find something I wanted to buy? I've grown redcurrants for years and always wanted to make a redcurrant jelly, sadly I could never find one of those jelly-bag wotsits in the shops locally, 10 seconds with Google and I not only located loads of suppliers, I could search out the cheapest too and compare products (I've found lots of other things online too, but that jelly-bag sticks in my mind).
I don't like some of the things the internet has created, I used to chat to my friends on the phone and now we just email, my daughter announced the birth of her son on facebook via her mobile, so when I phoned around to pass on the good news everyone already knew (except my mum). And I've seen some people (usually young males) who seem to lead completely virtual lives, which I don't believe is healthy for either body or spirit. I don't think the internet is all good, but Googleing is one of its lesser evils. I could give it up for a day, but I'd have stored up lots of things I wanted to check out when I could use it again!
