My mother has been declining in health since Easter, having several strokes and other episodes of ill health that have progressivley weakened her. Several months ago it was apparent she would be unable to cope without residential care, and after a period of adjustment it looked as if thingsp were settling down. Her latest bout of pneumonia has now left her even more debilitated than before, and wewere told she would not be able to walk again, and possibly not manage to feed herself as the instinct to preform these basic functions had been lost. However, she would be unaware she wasn't doing these things and therefore it wouldn'd worry her.
Tonight she was eating beef casserole, not pureed food, and was chatting away like a good un to my sister, who asked if she was in pain. SHe replied no, but when they came to get her on her feet she thought she'd better of been prepearing herself, so she was runiing under the covers. I now wonder what the assessment team will make of her. Is it a flash in the pan, or a sign of things to come? One day we know the news will be bad, but she's amazed us all so much so far, we can't help but hope.
