Bare in mind that if you're over 6ft 4 ish inversion tables are no good.

I had one, but when I found myself upside down with my head on the floor and not being able to get back up (if you're over a certain height your balance centre is off) I decided to get rid of it.

Strange......I'm 6'4" & have no problem, however I don't take it below about 60 degrees......too much blood to the head........

That's why I said "over" . Mine wouldn't stop at anything other than full inversion. Darned thing.

I used to have excruciating pains in my upper back and neck. After years of having no joy with doctors I went to an osteopath. Very scary at first but after the examination and taking of medical history I was given a lovely massage, which by itself was worth the money, followed by the manipulation. For the next few days it did feel as though I'd done a heavy work out session but the pain was eased. It took a few visits to sort out the problem and sometimes I have to go back but It was well worth the money.
I've now discovered TENS machines to help if the pain starts coming back and they stop any problems before it gets too bad. They feel weird (If you've ever put your hand on an electric fence then it's like a gentler more controlled version of that) and take a bit of getting used to but they're worth every penny if they work for you however they don't work for everyone.

Best of luck with your first session.

I had severe neck and back pain for years, put it down to too much heavy lifting. Also when riding (I was a groom at the time plus having my own horse for years) I could never keep my right stirrup and always tipped to the left.
Then one day my back went 'crick and I couldn't bear the pain. Was refered to a physio, had a course of treatment and was fine for 6 months.
Then 'crick'...this time I took myself to a dual registered oesteo/chiropractor. She stripped me to bra and knickers and spent the next 6 weeks doing half an hour weekly. Mostly gentle pulling, pushing and the odd shove or two. With two very painful but over in a flash neck crunches.
It was 5 years before I had any more pain!!!!! And that was only because I fell badly. Apparently my pelvis was twisted AND unlevel, which was causing me to walk lobsided and creating tension right through my body. As a side effect cos she leveled me up I stopped loosing my stirrup and tipping left when riding YAAY.

One thing to remember - these problems are often the result of years of bad practise/posture/overexertion etc, so unlikely to be resolved in one visit. Persevere, and it'll all be worth it.

                Good luck.

I am going at 4pm, mum is looking after the children for me.
I did ballet for years so should have quite a good posture, but I guess being pregnant etc has put me off kilter!

                  Wish me luck X

ps best not tell him I have been up a ladder painting all morning, and have been trying to get the paint out of my hair! lol

I saw a cranial osteopath for several years to sort out a crippling problem with my neck made worse by extreme stress at work. The first visit was an hour and a half to enable him to take a detailed medical history and massage and manipulate. Bra or vest worn up top as he only needed to massage to my waist. The massage wasn't painful but the two neck 'crunches' at the end were. However, the free, loose feeling afterwards was wonderful.

Apart from sorting out my neck he advised me to ask my dentist to make me a night gum shield to prevent teeth grinding which was creating tightness and tension at my jaw hinges and in my head.

I didn't mention to him that I was using the shield ~ he told me. The tension and tightness were so much relieved.

From 3 times a week I managed to get down to once a month then once every six weeks 'maintenance' and now, none. Good mattress, pillows and posture are essential. Falling asleep on the sofa is not recommended for me and can set me back.

If osteopathy doesn't suit you, physiotherapy or chiropractice may, but you have to try them out to find out.

Pilates and/or yoga will probably help you once you are 'balanced'.

                      I'm back!
I didn't have to take my clothes off (worse lost tracksuit) so that was a bonus.
he thinks the pains are postural due to carrying the children and not being re-aligned sooner.
He says my back is tight all the way up but worse on the right side. I carry The boys on the left so probably lean to compensate.

The funniest bit was the CRUNCH. I am surprised you couldn't all hear it! Followed swiftly by my 'AAARRGGHHHH'
The CRUNCH on the other side - my pelvis being re-aligned apparently! I hope the people in the waiting room didn't hear me lol.

I ache now as he has done lots of stretching on my back adn I go again next week.

I had bad back pain after childbirth as well. Osteo's did me good but it didd all get a bit expensive after a while. I tried MBT shoes and these have been AMAZING. now when my back pain kicks in, I start wearing these and hey presto I'm good again. Basically they re-align your posture to its correct position and all the muscles start working in the way that they are meant to. They cost £100 plus but in my books it is money well spent. I no longer see the osteo

Oh poor you. Imagine to pay for so much pain. But, I am sure you are now on the road to complete recovery. It does take time but when your frame is damaged your body overcompensates compounding the injury. Try to stand tall. You are too young to suffer from wear and tear. It will mend.
