Why would anybody do that to their house? Do like the hummor of the neighbours though.

Why is it that this immense waste of electricity is viewed as socially acceptable?
I just can not square it with being green or even being environmentaly responsible.

I love seeing the displays people put up. YES it's a waste of electricity, YES it's often totally tasteless, but it's only a few weeks and it is FUN!
We usually waste a bit of diesel going to look at all the most flamboyant displays in our area (and BTW, a lot of the newest are LED, so they don't actually use so very much power).
Our lights go up in Spain, where our power IS mostly solar (and a bit of wind power) so we have to get the ones that don't use too much. The 3 sets of lights, plus the fibre-optic tree use less power left on all night (if we do leave them on all night) than the spin dryer uses for a laundry session, and yes we do HAVE to use the spin dryer, because otherwise we need a lot more water for rinsing the clothes.
We do also have some battery powered lights for under the patio roof. I think we replace the batteries every second year, and those ones ARE on all night, for the 3 weeks we are there.....Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.Comment
