I know I don't get her either I can never generally win whatever I do!

When my eldest was 6 months they bought him this mad dancing monkey bandstand thing that drove me nuts for months and was SO noisy - I vowed I would get my revenge - hence the drum kit!

So, next time she asks you, in advance, you must remember to say 'I'm not telling you - it's a surprise!' then it'll be up to her to sort it out when it all goes pear-shaped!

I'd definitely be asking the other person to return it as your receipt will be out of date now....if it was the other way round then I'm sure you would do so.

I'm with Glutton and RedThorn. If you'd just said SURPRISE then the problem would be hers.
But honestly, I don't see too much problem. What does it all matter to a 3 year old.
If your SIL thinks there is a problem then she can ask her sister to exchange it as he already has that gift. If it can't be done then he has 2 drumkits.
If I was his parents I would kill you both - 2 drum kits ! Do you really hate those people ?

Combine the two for a mega-kit and turn them both up to 11.
