Was up the allotment yesterday and decided to dig up a parsnip for tea...



And yes, that is a full size bottle of wine (well, we needed something to wash it down with )

Took me 20 minutes and a lot of sweat. I grew big parsnips last year but in 2009 they have been enormous.

Made delicious "parchips" with it - like crispy oven chips but made with... parnsip.

I didn't get round to growing any this year- and I'm regretting it now
Roitelet gave me one of hers which was as big as that...and it was wonderfully tender and tasty ( I often thought there was a chance of them being woody when they got that big..just goes to show eh...you learn something new every day!

Ah, good one. Makes me sad that I don't like parsnips! They taste too perfumy to me. I grow them some years for the rest of the family but I can live without them.

Wow I'm impressed, I only ended up with one parsnip this year and it was a scary looking thing that grew all joined together.

That's a cracker! We had one just a little bit smaller than that, but it still took two of my hands to circle the top of it, and I ended up leaving the end of it in the ground cos I couldn't dig it up!! Definitely a good year for the 'snips this year Mine was made into a whole pan of curried parsnip soup on it's own
