Good lord, and I thought the only thing on the interweb that would excite me would be a naked pic of Lorraine Kelly. I stand corrected. Now I understand my destiny; to grow a parsnip that big!

Cracking 'snips. Good effort, especially with not snapping it off.
Got a piccy in my office of my eldest granddaughter with a monster carrot from the summer, we did try and pull 2 more out that were even bigger but silly old granddad managed to snap them.Bob Leponge

I have to admit that I was amused to see Storm had used the same comparison as I did
As for the "secret" well, all I do is get the dibber and make the deepest hole I can with it and wiggle the top around in a circle so it hollows out a "cone" shape in the ground. I fill it with mixed compost and fine top soil and put the seed on top. cover it over and water it well.
to get it out I have to dig around the top of the 'snip and then a hole down one side with a trowel and fork so that I can take hold of the root near the bottom.
The variety is "Tender and true" from the Real Seed company. they can be a little bit tougher at the top where the leaves join on when they reach this size but I cut around that and use pretty much the whole lot from top to toe.
I cut them into "chips", dusted them with spiced flour and bunged them in the roasting tin with flavoured oil. They tasted great!
and the bottle of red wasn't too bad eitherVegetable Rights And Peace!

I once read a piece about allotment holders who grew just rhubarb and parsnips and the whole lot went into wine! To be honest we're parsnip-a-holics in this house and they are not usually around long enough to get fermented
