Morrison's - had never encountered them until I moved 'north' in 1989 - they were so cheap and the quality of goods was astounding. I think they are still good value now. I love Lidl and Aldi for the really odd mix of things that they sell - Mmm - I need some welding gloves, a ski mask, a lobster and a mango - where can I get these under one roof? Indeed! Always makes me smile.

Day to day, I use whichever shop I am cycling past (I can get 3 full carrier bags on my bike if I have to).

I know you all hate cyclists, but love me, because I am not taking up a parking space that you could use!

I can't do big shops with Mr S, because he gets road rage, then parking rage, then trolley rage. Home delivery is a wonderful thing for the 'heavies': tins, bottles etc.

me and the missus we use to to go to asda but they moved to the other end of town it's massive store ,sell almost anything you want it always seem cheap and nasty abit tacky .
we now use morrisons the thing you have to keep your eye on some of there "deals" been caught out a couple of times "it is buyer beware" in most supermarkets are sharp the way they do there deals ,i bought a pack of discs it said in big letters 20% of i had no idea what they normally cost when i got to the till she charged the price on the item when i complained she said oh they have already taken the discount of on the shelf price.
i do'nt know about you but most of the time when it says 20% of it normally means at the till, thats what i mean about sharpe ,also mispriced wrong tag on shelf to what the till says when you complain they give you the difference but don't seem in a hurry to change the shelf tag

For main supermarkets I have a choice of Morrisons or Tesco (which is the size of an average garden shed). Just as well I like Morrisons Used to like Sainsburys but nearest one is now too far away. I miss shopping in M&S (for all of the nice wee treats). Waitrose has opened a store on Byres Road in Glasgow and Mr Frosty gets released from hospital on the 24th and guess who is visiting Waitrose before picking up Mr Frosty So any tips about nice, tasty bits and pieces from Waitrose will be gratefully appreciated (budget is £40 max - I'm cashing in my gardening fund)

I hate shopping in Supermarkets - I always try to buy as much as possible from local shops, but what was once a thriving shopping centre 3 years ago - with 2 greengrocers, baker, 2 butchers, woolies, hairdressers, newsagent, toy shop, vacuum repair shop, TV repair shop, pet shop, photographic shop, womens clothes shops, post office, 2 chemists, stationary shop, cafe, adams childrenswear, menswear shop, bike shop, to name a select few. Now this is down to: 1 greengrocer, loads of charity shops, 3 bookies, off licsence, subway, 5 chinese takeaways, post office, superdrug, and two co-ops.

I always try to use the greengrocer...and go to the farm shop when we can, but how else can I support local shops if they're not there?

Unfortunately it means we have to go out to Sainsburys once a week. Nightmare

                  Waitrose...

It's a bit of a trek now, and Tesco and Sainsbury are much closer, so I go to whichever we happen to be closest to. But Waitrose by choice, every time.

I go to an independent butcher, deli and fishmonger at the weekend, but weekdays, it's the supermarket.

Meat from my local Butcher, who has a darned good deli counter too. Veg, ideally from the garden, but definitely as local as possible (our local veg shop closed down this year ) I can no longer afford Farmers' Markets and Farm Shops, but will go if I can, and will call in if I'm passing.

Everything else I pick up from wherever I'm passing, as it saves me diesel. But, if I have to answer the question honestly and choose a UK supermarket (*spits) I'll go with Waitrose first then Sainsbury.

One of my nearest towns has, wait for it, THREE Tesco stores - talk about 'in yer face'

We have Waitrose, or a 10 mile + journey. Occasionally we resort to ASDA, although I always feel guilty if I buy food there (mostly it is wine or electrical stuff).

Seems to me that I am one of the lucky ones. I live in a thriving market town. We have a twice weekly Royal Charter Street market. Selling from local home produced meat and on-site burgers to Computer needs. On the high street we have 2 self employed butchers shops, 3 on-site bakers and even a candlestick maker (hardware shop) and a small Waitrose. Within a quarter of a mile a Co-op and Morrisons. Should we need a bit of a change there is also a Tesco. Asda. Aldi and Lidless within 18 miles. AND we are informed Lidls is coming to town!!

Aldi for bargains not necessarily food, love Sainsburys as staff so friendly, store well laid out and have shopped there for years and Waitrose for special, special occassions.
