Has anyone got any christmas spirit?

This year anything and everything seems to be going wrong although decs are up and presents are bought/made. The thing is it just isnt feeling Christmassy, have tried the putting christmas music on going to try some movies. Anyone got any ideas? I need to find a way of getting the christmas spirit not for myself neccessarily but for hubby whos struggling abit with all the crappy news.

Not feeling very Christmassy yet. Nicos's advent calendar always brings a smile to my face. No cards sent yet, only a few presents purchased and don't get me started on arangements for family coming over.

Some of you may remember, son number two lived with his partner with whom he had a daughter. They seperated and son number one took up where son number two left off. They are now married. Can you imagine how complicated it is seeing everyone but trying to make sure that son number two doesn't end up in the same room as his sister in law and ex-partner. It's a logistical nightmare.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Oh and forgot to mention, then there's the Hagga Bagga (mother in law). We have to have her over on Christmas day and that's enough to drain the Christmas spirit away from any gathering no matter how festive. Couple of hours in her company and the Christmas spirit needs to be sought in a bottle.

I'm putting up decs and getting presents bought/made. My heart just isn't in it this year, I know I have a lot to be thankful for, but in with the happiness is the sadness/memories of those who are no longer with us..as for family visits etc, I'm lucky in that my family and my in-laws are all pretty laid back people and we don't have unreasonable expectations of each other. Also, I work for the NHS (on an emergency ward) so that just keeps on going, Xmas or no

Aah, Kirsty - I know what you mean - but some of my best memories centre on the hospital at Christmas! All I can say is that (smugly) I just finished the shopping for pressies (have to be posted tomorrow) and then it is the last week of panic at work and I'm on my HOLS - wheee!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Me too. I went to see our grandson's stage debut last night and seeing all the little ones recount their version of the Christmas Story brought tears to my eyes. Now I know It Really is Christmas.

                  OH bought the tree yesterday.
He and son went to bed much too late last night but as I'm having friends over tonight and want to get the tree up they are going to have to put up with me hoovering while they sleep. I don't want to end up rushing round like a headless chicken this afternoon and being shattered by the time the guests arrive.

How do you define 'christmas spirit'. Is it infectious. I think it is.

Just like to note, I love my job (i think my original post may have sounded a bit ambiguous) and the atmosphere over Christmas on the ward is good and we can have such a laugh while still getting to job done. (we have a laugh anyway cos I work with such a fab team) Everyone so much more relaxed and we relax visiting rules too for friends and family of patients. We also get all but the very poorliest home too if we can. On the plus side, I have a nightshift Xmas Eve, so get Christmas AND Boxing Day at home this year
