I feel a bit thick now as I've absolutely no idea what type of soil I have, I just know everything I've put in it so far is growing ok.

                  Heywayne you are not alone!
I look at soil whenever some one digs a 'look-in-able' hole! then........ I start to wonder, just what is under the soil, stone, chalk, clay? ....it's bad and has now got much worse due to the Nat Geo web site where you can look 'under' the soil....cant work the web site very well at the moment - it's so frustrating!
                  Do I need help?

Since I did my geology degree (oh heck, in the late 60s!) I have looked down holes! In the road, on building sites if I can get near, just anywhere. This is in spite of the popular geological perception that soil is just the fluff on top of the rocks!
