I'm lucky my OH doesn't drink or go out all that much, but if he did a Mr Sheds I would be proper P****d off at him. Especially for the 2am text However, if I had known in advance that he was staying out/likely to, I would be fine with that.
I see all this venting/revenge planning as a bit of fun. I often threaten dire things to OH, but never do them, but its a way of getting it off my chest in a harmless way. I do find that not reacting or doing something horrible in revenge messes with his head, as he spends a whole day looking over his shoulder waiting for summat to happen hehehe

I don't drink so can't really comment but just wanted to wish you both good luck.

Not because I do it, but because it happens.
I didnt go out with the intention of coming home the following afternoon with a tongue 4 sizes too big for my head and a small steel band on top of my brain, it just happened.
I honestly dont think its a question of respect or otherwise, alcohol is something that makes generally rational people sometimes do irrational things.
Thus that is why I would plead clemency for Mr S.

I have been Mr S, many times, and I always expected the deaf and dumb breakfast, favours to be withheld for an indefinite period of time and quite possibly cat food in my spag bol (that's a great one) but not once did I go out beforehand with the intention of not coming home the same day, it just happened that way.

Agreed Bob hence why I asked if it was a once in a blue moom or a regular occurence.... For a once in a blue moon, some understanding and leeway I think is appropriate.

Of course it is a question of respect - everyone knows what alcohol can do to a person - unless its your first drink! I agree 'accidents' do happen, but Mr 2-S hardly showed much concern for 2-sheds' worry about his whereabouts.

Mr Frosty has only once disappeared after a works night do (years ago when we were first married). He appeared the next morning suffering (he's never been able to handle drink) He did it only once cause I made him suffer even more I consider Mr Frosty to be kind and considerate (in the Fire Service he was described as a gentle man and a Gentleman - if you get what I mean) but like Bob and RT have said they don't mean to act like a muppet but they do! all men need is alcohol. That said Mr TS should be punished, never mind hanging his danglies from a hook. What about popping them in the food dehydrator

My point exactly, thus its not a question of respect or lack of.

I'm sorry Boble, but I disagree. After all, Mr TS is a grown up. Yes, he may be a male grown up, but he is still a grown up, and should have the common decency to keep his partner informed of his plans, so she didn't worry. I appreciate he did make the effort to text, but 2am is rather late don't you think? What would have happened if the text hadn't been processed immediately? They only guarantee to process them within 24 hours!

It would be different if this were an isolated incident, but I'm under the impression from what I've read here, that he is an inconsiderate and very selfish person, and I don't believe he deserves the support and understanding of TS at all. She obviously has to take a lot of >bleep< from this guy, and I don't think a partner deserves to be treated like that.

I'll get off my soap box now

No, you missed my point - he's drunk alcohol before (I assume), he therefore knows what might go wrong. Its a Xmas do, potential double whammy...why didn't he arrange something before hand?

Why didn't he phone when he was getting a bit squffy...he could have done lots of things to smooth things over - he chose to ignore 2-sheds feelings and do as little as possible. Not the act of a brave or thoughtful person in my eyes.

My 2p worth? I think you should be devastatingly serene and reasonable - no sulks, no recriminations, but a dangerous glint in your eye and the knowledge that you have the ability to wait for some revenge opportunity to happen! Which may take months, years - and the only way to avoid it will be for Mr TS to stop acting like an adolescent!

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions I wonder how far along the road he feels he is at the moment ! I can see the phrase " doing a Mr TwoSheds" entering the lexicon of the grapevine as a substitute for "cardinal sin".
At the end of the day, there comes a time for every man when you either care enough to do the right thing (and that includes a grovelling, flower-filled apology when you realise what you did) or you are never going to temper your impulses, and your partner must accept that with all its implications. Personally, I'd say without enough trust no relationship is sound.
Good idea to garner opinions though, it lets you laugh at it, nurse comforting fantasies of revenge, and see just how reasonable/evil your own reactions are !
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

Well I'm very impressed by your control TS, having discussed our OH's inadequacies and compared notes I think I can understand how angry you would be, 'cause he regularly takes the piddle in every capacity not just this.

                                Me too

I intend to pace myself and I will not get drunk, I will not be hungover and want to die the next day. Something happens and all of a sudden the 3rd drink becomes the 33rd et voila, all good intentions are paving the road to hell.

Perhaps I'm easily led. Never happens when I have a drinky or two on my own.
