There is lots of discounted supermarket champers about this year, most of it is poor quality. A good prosseco will cost less and taste much better.
Just remember, Tax and duty of a bottle of wine is around 2.20 per bottle, factor in the cost of the bottle, profit and the like and you see just how much the wine actually costs.
If you spend the average 4.00 a bottle your wine actually costs 30p, so if you buy an 8 bottle you get 4.30's worth of wine. Thats why most cheap wine is drinkeable but not nec very good or even good value.
I was never a fan of champagne until I heard the trick of putting a shot of elderflower cordial in it. So much fruitier that way, and much more to my taste....
Now that's worth a try Ollie - I hadn't even thought of it!
I love Elderflower Cordial, I even put some in a G&T - Yummy! Got to be better than blimmin Orange juice with it anyway

I love Prosecco. Try it with white peach juice for a Bellini in summer too.
Another alternative to Champagne is Cloudy Bay Pelorus (not a lot cheaper but tastes lovely). It's a Marlborough region New Zealand one.
I do like a sparkly drink! We bought some hibiscus flowers in syrup that you place in the bottom of the glass, and the flower opens as you drink - looks and tastes really nice as an aperitif-type drink.
In the good ol U s of A they used to sell a sparkling red methode champenoise (I think it was a burgundy style something or other) called Cold Duck. It used to be currency near the airbases in Suffolk.

The other trick I know like that is putting ribena in a particularly boring red wine. And before any purists tell me I don't know what I'm talking about (which is technically correct) I got that idea off Oz Clarke

There's some fizzy stuff over here that sells for about a euro a bottle I think, but I cant remember the name of it. Its quite sweet but as I have a sweet tooth I like it. A lot.
Any of the Frenchies know what I'm talking about? (On this particular subject at least)
Is it this Bob? Ptillant de Listel Scareys Mum always has it when she's here, it is a bit more than a euro a bottle but not too much more. It is sweet and not too alcoholic - I don't really like it
