No Bren, I don't think so. I think this was a deliberate attack on the Vine.

RT, it might be something to do with the Ads, or, it might be that Norton just blocks whatever it is, and allows you to carry on? They all work in different ways I guess At the moment, I trust Avast, but not really AVG, as I've had AVG infiltrated by something not long ago and had to do a complete hard drive format to get rid

That's good to hear T_S P'rhaps the newest updates are better? Hope so.

And Bummer! about Norton RT Hope Avast sorts it for you.

Trouble is that the nasty hacker/spammer peeps have access to the programs which are meant to stop them, and work out ways to get round them. They're always going to focus on the most popular anti-virus programs I guess. Probably only a matter of time before they get round Avast too

I aint no computer geek but if your pooter has been infected with a trojan I would recommend changing all your passwords after removal.

A fortnight after the last trojan I had was elininated my bank account was accessed via Paypal.

Luckily Paypal took the blame and returned the money but I think it was the trojan accessing my passwords.
I was told it works by seeing which letters you access on the keyboard. I now use the onscreen keyboard to imput passwords into the computer via a mouse as this is harder for the trojan to access!

Its a jungle out there folks and its probably some 11 year old computer nerd kid sitting at a keyboard subsidising his pocket money!

Its also worth noting that you should never have two antivirus products installed at the same time, it could cause you far more headaches than you are ready for.

Having one AV, one malware scanner such as MalwareBytes, one spyware scanner such as Spybot all at the same time is fine but please never two AV packages, an AV package is designed to protect key files and it always checks them, when a second AV is installed they can start to see each other as a threat and target each other for removal possibly leading to you ending up with no protection and corrupted system files.

There is a free program called 'KeyScrambler' available on the Mozilla (Firefox and Thunderbird) web site. It works with Explorer too and encrypts your keyboard input as you type it. So if anybody gets a key logger onto your machine it will not tell the spy what you are actually putting in. Works too. I use it with Firefox which is less likely to be attacked than I.E. but as I said, it works with I.E.

A good point PaulG. Two Anti-Virus programs at once does indeed cause conflict. Disabling or uninstalling one before activating another is definitely the way to go

Sarraceniac, that's useful information, thank you I've been 'had' by a keylogger before

Can I just give a big up for Microsoft Security Essentials. I installed it for free instead of Mcaffee, Norton, Avg,Avast ,Avira,Superantispyware and numerous others I have tried.

It has a small footprint, doesn't slow my system down and does the job!

It's the only one I have and use now!

Can I just say that AVG did not pick up on both the viruses I had, only one. Avast did a good job at finding it though. MrH has spent most the day clearing my pc up and at one point thought a full re-install was in order!

Thankfully all sorted now and he is feeling rather smug
