I've been a big Christmas fan for as long as I can remember - but just lately I don't seem to have the interest in it, not sure why.

SL, you did well to get there, you made an effort and you'll soon be back in the leafy lanes of Surrey

Considering the distance you travelled, in horrible weather you did really well to get there, unhurt, this Christmas many people on long journeys didn't arrive at all. Unhurt or otherwise due to the weather.

Also this is the 5th Christmas without my mum. I would give anything, anything to be able to have a cuddle, row, rant, laugh with her.

Now please tell your mum how you feel, and whenever you set off, please have a safe journey home, and I will leave you a plate of Mince pies on the hard shoulder of the M1 just after Leicester Forest East, cos I live right near there. (If your passing).

Merry christmas everybody and a quiet newyear. (Gone and upset myself now)
No offence taken at all, Seasprout. So sorry that you're without your Mum. I did say something yesterday and she says that they're not allowed to take time off over Christmas, so not much she could do (except maybe tell me before!!). I was in a right depressed mood when I wrote this and so sorry to have upset you. You obviously have some lovely memories of your Mum.

I can report that we went for a brief shopping trip before she went to work yesterday and I looped her arm after informing her that now she's an old biddy she needs it. I set off for home at 5pm and queued down the M6. Sorry I didn't collect any mince pies. I don't like them and went down the M40!

So, am not feeling sorry for myself today and even enjoyed a lovely ride in the sh*te weather!! I have also contemplated some positive things from this Christmas, including:

-I cooked my first roast dinner, for MIL/FIL and OH. Gravy was top notch. Gotta love that Mary Berry!

-I gifted my first watercolour to my Mum. She thought I'd had it commissioned, until I pointed out the signature! There's hope.

-as Seasprout rightly points out, I've made it unscathed through some really dangerous driving! I'm also healthy and so are my animals.

-I may take on another elderly cat soon. Enquired about 12 of the buggers this morning, as the sanctuary holding them is closing down. They were all owned by an old lady who died. So, that's my good deed!

No more whinging, then. At least for a few days.

I don't think there's any need to apologise for whingeing. A problem shared, and all that.

People who say "you're always moaning" have often never had to contend with any great problems themselves: and some people's cups really are half-empty.
