  • YEY!!!...we're now on 12Kw!!!

...that might not mean much to most of you , but electricity is provided - and charged for - differently in France
In the UK you can use as much, or a little electricity as you wish. Over here you have to chose the maximum at any one moment. The previous owners were on 6Kwand it was always tripping ( kettle, iron, laptop a few lights and a fridge would trip the whole house. So we upped it to 9Kw which was fine until we got a couple of freezers and washing machine and microwave. It's been tripping at least twice a week which meant hiking across the house in the pitch dark ( no street lights)up and down steps between each room in search of a torch which was never where I'd left i! and then a trek outside to the cellar to flick the main trip ,only to get inside and it go again!!
Anyway- having sold the UK house I've decided i'm not struggling anymore and asked to be upped to 12 Kw.( esp as i'll be bringing overthe tumble dryer etc etc..)
I'm now an exceptionally happy lass as the EDF lady arrived this morning! 5 mins and it was all sorted!
( and yup- we'll get in an electrician in to check out the balance of each zone, but I'm now busy planing a new kitchen layout with more sockets /surfaces/cupboards)
    Happy days!!

both a plus and a minus.... Gratz by the way, but I would have left it lower as it keeps you concious of how much you are using.... sorry

Wow Nicos - a different world! Having said that I can relate to your trip switch situation as mine reguarly goes off and I have to hunt around for the offending appliance. Usually the iron .
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Yup- agree- and I'll continue to be careful, but our bills are so much lower than in the UK as it is cos there are so few sockets and light fittings. We'll probably drop it again in the late spring!(Tis pretty basic chez moi at the moment)

It's amazing how little you can live with when you have too ain't it. However towels and jeans out of a tumble dryer are sooooooo niiiiiiccccceee!

I'm with you on this one Nicos, why make life heard for yourself when you can make it so much easier, I wouldn't be without my tumble dryer especially this time of year .

Thank you Fi- I was beginning to wonder if I was going a bit girlie there.

It must be carting wood in from the stack feeding 2 woodburners all Xmas and being covered in bark chippings and constantly sweeping and mopping the floor which made me pamper for a bit more of 'normality'!!

If you want tea towels, let me know and I'll pop some in the post for you.

I think running freezers to store your own produce is probably more green than shipping in same on an aeroplane, so don't worry Nicos And, if you use the dryer, you can get away with not ironing, another saving on leccy...
Heaven knows how much we'd need coming into our house, apart from the usual fridge, freezer, oven, washer, dryer, we have 2 PCs, 2 laptops, 4 tellys, xbox, playstation...
