    4 tellys

Agree about the comment with regards to the freezers, have to disagree with the not having to iron after tumble dryer (tried various makes over the years), perhaps I'm just to finickity with regards to clothes and creases where they should and shouldn't be ....

Well...when you're covered in bark from the wood for the fire and shavings from the chooks, the creases sort of don't matter quite as much as they used to!!

I sympathise with you Nicos & although we don't seem to use as much power as a lot of people I think I'd have to have the 12k you've opted for. We had about 4 or 5 power cuts here in the couple of weeks before Christmas & one night I sat here freezing by candlelight, eating chocs. & drinking wine & doing a crossword by torchlight for a couple of hours whilst O.H. was out on a Christmas work do! Actually that doesn't sound too bad does it?!
I love open fires when we go on holiday in cottages but think it might wear a bit thin if I had to go out in freezing weather to chop my own logs all the time!

Actually my O.H. does most of his own ironing (very particular about shirts!), I don't let him near anything of mine though as he has the iron set on 'get the fire brigade on speed dial' & I always have to check he's unplugged it!

Yup, four tellys. One fastened to xbox in boys room. One fastened to playstation in daughter's room. One with DVD in my room, used for watching OU stuff mainly. And one in the living room.

With the tumble dryer, I just fold stuff up while it's still warm. Then there's only shirts to iron, and that's not often. The kids uniforms are all polo shirts and sweatshirts, look fine if folded/hung while hot

Its only this year that i got mains electricity running off a generator makes you really carefull of how much you have plugged in at any one time and my bills are nowhere nr that of my neighbours i must have learned over the years to be carefull and it 's to my benefit now

That system is interesting. It seems a bit backwards, but I guess it may be to do with the maximum capacity of the infrastructure.

I saw in the news that during our recent cold snap, some gas mains were out of order somehow and the impact of everyone turning to electric heaters instead fried the mains locally, so they were without gas and electricity.

BFG- I understand that it's a similar system in Italy too!
It's only the modern appliences which cause the problems, kettles, microwaves , cold fill washing machines, tumble dryers etc which suddenly clock up an instant peak in demand...and of course electric radiators which are popular over here.
In summer it's a very different situation of course when we tend to spend time/cook /dry much more outside.

Same as you Nicos, was on 9 when I first moved over but upgraded to 12 straight away. Difference is really noticable.
Was only on 6 in my last house, and couldnt use the electric shower and the kettle at the same time, so painful.

Well it ain't all that great in the Greater London connurbation!! I can't have a shower at the same time as a neighbour (have to dash for the bathroom between 7 and 7.30) because the electric shower goes cold due to low water pressure!! And they keep on building blocks of flats on brownfield sites all around! And we regularly have short power cuts which upsets various appliances!

The iron often seems to be the last straw! Before my aunt was on mains power, the generator would always trip when the iron went on unless you switched just about everything else off including the lights! The generator was at the bottom of the orchard about 150metres from the house and it was a swine to re-start!
Dad never ever took mains electricity for granted, both he and mum were brought up without any mains services - he always loved the fact that you could get hot water out of a tap and insisted on doing the washing up!
