Our local council print out a lovely informative leaflet telling us what will be collected and when. Soooo, we pack it all up tidily and put it out on the allotted morning (not too early, not too late) and guess what? Yup - they don't turn up
My Dad called them, and they said it was due to the weather. The postman got through in his little noddy van, the paper-man got through in his car, the couriers got through in their big vans, and the heating oil lorry got through.
But not the bin men!Last edited by Glutton4...; 30-12-2009, 04:04 PM.All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

We are lucky in that our bins are still collected each week anyway. Good job too as one whole bin bag is nappies! (degradable ones). It really messes things up on a bank holiday and I never know when they will turn up. Our recycling is every 2 weeks.

Same with us, we missed our normal bin day, becasue of the snow, so they decided to just not come until we wer next due a collection, that's 4 weeks, with Christmas rubbish thrown in. Oh, and aren't they being nice, we have been told they WILL accept rubbish in seperate sacks. Normally they won't collect anything that't not in the bin, and not evne that if the lid won't shut. Surprising how many people 'take' extra space in other people's bins . I went to put a 'last minute' cat litter bag in a month or so ago, and found our bin filled up with someone else's rubbish.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Wish they did pick up our bins every two weeks, would save a fortune. We only put ours out about once a month since we got organised with recycling and started boycotting over packaged products.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Ours are hopeless. It's supposed to be paper/cardboard one week and tins and glass the next with general refuse every week. In reality they can't be bothered half the time so we frequently have one or other missed. Not so bad for general refuse but the recycling bins are much smaller and if they miss one pick up it means a month between collections.
Last week the paper was collected but not the household waste, this week it was the glass bin that was left behind

We have green bins one week and recycling and landfill bins the other week.
Not so bad in winter but green bin did get a might smelly as we were not putting it out very often, we now use compostable caddy liners so it doesn't smell any more.
Next door neighbours bin was full of maggots she said, yuk! Mind you she was throwing out loads of food. When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

Our recycle bins (black) get emptied every other week.
Our weed bins (blue) get emptied every other week from around March to October, not at all through winter.
Our ordinary rubbish (red/maroon) gets emptied every week, but I put mine out usually only every other week as it just doesn't get full in one week.
When there is a holiday which interferes with the bin day, they put a sticky label on the lid to let us know when they will be collecting over that period; however I rarely see this as there are now so many old labels on my bin I can't tell if a new one has been added.
I generally just notice if my neighbours have put theirs out and trundle mine out too.
I am glad we now have only 3 bins and they are all wheelie type.
We did have a box for the newspapers/bottles which was awkward/heavy to carry to the roadside ( I have a fairly long path ). They now go in the black bin.
I have noticed that some people around here now have a food scraps bin, but I haven't requested one yet as we have a dog.
It is so much better since we have got wheelie bins as the dogs/cats/seagulls can't now rip open bags of rubbish as they used to before. The litter/vermin problem has been greatly reduced.

We have black bins for everyday rubbish, green bins for recycling, black box for tins, green box for bottles and some plastic cartons ( milk juice etc ), caddy for kitchen waste ( food ) and in a bag newspapers, papers etc, emptied on a two week rota, black one due to be emptied on christmas eve, not done because it was very icy, I rang on tuesday offices shut till 4th Jan. There was a message to say they would be round and to make sure bin was out on 29th, they came on 30th. Goodness knows when the next one due on sat 2nd will be taken. We also recycle the cartons that they wont take ourselves as well as any othe rubbish that the council wont take but the recycling centre will.Gardening ..... begins with daybreak

we've got black boxes for bottles, cans and paper and an 'everything else landfill' collection weekly. But we live 5 mins walk from our local supermarket recycle site, which takes cans, bottles, paper, cardboard, plastic and clothes. Spoilt eh. And the tip nearby takes paint, oil, thinners and batteries. And all in a little town with a population of around 6000
Mind you between the bottomless pit (oh) dog cat rabbit horses and chickens and the horses muck heap we often stick our bag out fortnightly..half full.Anyone who says nothing is impossible has never tried slamming a revolving door
