We grew a row of F1 Kestrel Beetroot over the last few weeks, we picked them when they were golf ball sized as Louise uses them for chutnies etc..................We also have a chum who "loves" beetroot so, we wandered down to him and gave him a rather large bag of nice freshly pulled beetroot telling him that they were a newish variety specifically for over winter growing and were called Kestrel.............A couple of days later I asked him what he thought of the beetroot knowing he was an "expert" in their flavour etc.
"Oh, I re planted them John to see if they are bolt hardy, I prefer my beetroot to be as big as a grapefruit coz they have a much better flavour".
I just shook my head and walked away.
