  • Any one use an Electricity Monitor thingamajig?

I think my electricity bill is ridiculos; let me explain. The only items which run 24/7 are my fridge /freezer and a small upright freezer. TV/DVD and all other gubbins are only 'on' when we use them and never on 'Standby'. I have 3 x 7w enegy savers which run dawn to dusk, 3 energy savers in main rooms and half a doz incandesant lightbulbs. I'm an obsessive 'switcher offer'. Only two of us in the household, we both work so are out most of the day. No electrick cooking or heating of immersion heater.
And yet I pay £72 per month with Eon, £189 last quarter. I only want to pay my bit & not for the street.

I had problems with E7 as I though it was not working, I complained about for 2 years Eon found out the E7 was not coming on!

I still think its too expensive for what I use and the meter is out of calibration. Eon will not tell me when that was done and want to charge £200+vat for an engineer to come out. this is where the electricity monitor comes in; shall I get one to check consumtion my self & do they work?

Sorry for the rant but they are really bugging me now

We are with EON. Phone them up and ask them to send you one. Ours was free.

***Warning*** It may make you paranoid - but again, it might solve your problem.

PS We pay £150 a month to EON.....but we have a large house with six of us in it.

i live on my own most of the time, my laptop is plugged in and on all day as is the telly, i have a freezer and fridge on all the time, mostly non energy lightbulbs, cos they look crap in my light fittings, washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer,

      gas cooker and hot water...

my electric costs me £8 a week, gas without the fire about £5 a week, with the fire up to £10 a week, and i only use the central heating when it's less than -2 .... and i'm on a card meter.

That seems excessive. I pay £47 a month for electric, large house with three living in it, I am home most of the time. Gas for heating, hot water and cooking £59 a month and we have just had the bill ( read by them ) in and we are £95 in credit so I can have the heating on and not worry.

Our leccy is about £40 a month, but we run 2 fridges, a chest freezer, a huge telly, DVDs, wash machine, dishwasher, radios etc.
I get up at midnight to switch things on for the Economy 7.

I have an electric monitor, it was £10 from Maplins. I can't tell you if it works, because I never sussed out how to convert its reading (in Kwh) into pounds and pence.

We have recently switched our energy suppliers from Npower as they were astonomical!! Shop around you may get a better deal else where we have saved £750 a year on our energy bills.
