The annual Quadrantid meteor shower peaks tonight (3rd Jan)but optimum veiwing is only from Eastern Europe, so we won't get anything like the best view from UK. The astral highlight of the weekend was the partially eclipsed 'blue moon' on NY Eve( I think it only happens about once every thousand years or so ), so if ya' missed it, ya' missed itI you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

Hi Headfry - just noticed your question here - the blue moon only happens rarely and refers to the second full moon in a month - we had one at the beginning of December and another one (the blue one - not literally) on New Year's Eve. Difference between lunar and the (Gregorian?) monthly calendar.Last edited by Jeanied; 04-01-2010, 09:18 PM.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

The clear night skies here are absolutely fabulous!!
With the full moon and snow/heavy frost over the past few days, it's been light enough to wander round outside with no lights at all.
Now that the moon is getting smaller, the stars are becoming really clear. The Milky Way is just like a speckled cloud..wonderful!
Anyone know which planet it is near the moon?"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple
Location....Normandy France
