superking bed?

Obviously they take up a lot of room so you need a very large bedroom otherwise it will be all bed. One of my friends has one and she wishes she hadn't as it makes it hard to fit wardrobes etc into the bedroom (and she needs a lot of storage.....). Bedding will obviously cost more as it's bigger and I hadn't thought of the fact that it takes up more washing machine / airer space. We considered a king size but in the end just went for the larger duvet on a standard double bed. Works well for us but even after about 15 years together we still like to be close enough to have a conversation without a loud hailer (felt a bit like that when we slept in a HUGE bed in some fancy hotel). Suppose it's a personal choice thing to some extent but you really do need to make sure you have the space. Can you mark out the outline with cardboard boxes and work out how much space you would have round the outside (not just marked on the floor as you need some height to mimic a bed)

I love ours - when we've had a row we can be far apart enough to wave to each other instead of speaking and there's plenty of room for when we're friends!

Thanks all, we defo have the room for it (the new bedrom is 3.7m on the wall the bed will go, and 4.5 to the wardobes.).
At the mo we have a double and a king sized duvet on it as OH does live to steal it all lol. We have a dunelm quite near so will be able to get beding from there.
And with 4 of us in it and hopefully more little ones in the future it will be great for a growing brood! (altough not sure we will find each other in a huge bed lol)

My mum laughed and said how come the shortest people in the world need the biggest bed lol. (I am 5foot 3ish and OH only about an inch bigger) but he has this Napoleon complex thing so thinks he's bigger pmsl.

We have what is called a zip and lock bed. It is like two single beds that join together.The base has an attachment top and bottom to bolt it together and the mattresses have zips top and bottom. I use king sized bedclothes on them.
The good thing about this bed is you can separate it if you need to use it for two singles.

I'm looking for a nice bolster in the sales. When we stay at MiL's, it takes about 15 minutes to remove the 17 bolsters, beaded strip thing at the end of the bed, throw, throw cushions, 'accent' cushions, decorative eiderdown and welcome chocolate mint.

I'm exaggerating obv. There's never a welcome mint.

Know what you mean Wayne. We have 8 "normal" pillows and 4 of those huge french things (from La Redoute). The 4 "normal" pillows stay on the bed, but the rest are on the floor. They are comfy though when piled up behind me on a non-working day when I can have a garden mag to read and a cup of tea brought to me, like tomorrow because we can't get the car out to go to work.

I too am *ahem* hot in bed, which is why we were advised against one of them mammary foam mattress. The constant and constinuous contact with the skin is not conducive to cooling.

I would say try memory foam mattress, the modern covers and even foam design means the bed moulds to your shape you don't sink in in and I have not noticed and heat difference to a normal mattress

We got a Superking bed for the same reasons as mentioned before i,e being 6ft + and wanting a bed the kids could sit with us especally as I can be stuck in bed for several days at a time

We have a memory foam King Size. Lovely for sleeping but a b----- to make up. You need a crane to move the mattress plus the memory bit is only on one side so you cannot reverse it.

We have exactly the same - it's fab! It is heavy, when you have to rotate it, but it is lovely and comfy. I too am a hot-body and was concerned about overheating, but no probs so far. In fact I love it so much, I even bought a memory foam topper for the caravan!

Himself was on about getting one for our 'van. Reckons its too uncomfy with the ridges from the cushions when the bed is made up. The Princess and the Pea got nothing on this guy!!

Like the idea of the zip-together bed, our stairs are very narrow, so that would be the only way I'd get a superking up there without craning it in through a window!!
