Me and OH thought that the cheeey pie thing looked like vomit,

We used to have the cheesy pie for school dinners and guess what we called it - cheese sick! Didn't stop us eating it though - a hot favourite!

Don't actually know what that means but according to their web site the programme is as follows:

"Simon King and David Myers have undertaken a nationwide search for Britain's lost recipes – those forgotten gems or secret scribbles handed down through the generations – to help create a massive database of tasty and achievable recipes. But it's also a call to arms; the series aims to bring together grannies, mums and daughters who love to cook, to ensure that these precious historical documents of our shared national cuisine are preserved for the future"

If that's do do with a gun then you are right but I still read it as aiming to save something worth saving not just run of the mill stuff.

Am also hoping that some of the mum's and daughters they focus on turn out to be dads and sons but that's a different discussion.

I have to confess that as a Scot (and maybe because I'm not a mum?) I felt slightly embarrassed and switched over before it even got to the baking lady. I mean, beany mince??? Coronary cheese pie? Deep fried samosas? The rumpy pumpy soup looked lovely and in Scotland we have a long tradition of broths, but that recipe wasn't even covered - just the fact that this family obviously enjoyed the windy effects

I honestly thought the rest of the UK would be laughing at us. Just me???

I enjoyed watching it, wont be cooking any of the recipes though. Same as I like DIY programes, never do any DIY..my kitchen is a from the 60's...apparently it's back in fashion..

Well Happybunny was inspired not to do any of the recipes but as they are to do a cookery thing this year for Girls Brigade, she now thinking of a recipe swap inviting parents of the girls and church members to bring along a dish and pass on the recipe, going a bit further picking the best or more unusual ones to make a recipe booklet to sell to those how can't come raising funds for the girls brigade Now all she needs to do is convince the captain its a good idea!

The cheesy pie and beanie thing looked 'orrible, reminded me of the kind of thing my mum would cook (but more by accident than design) and it didn't fill me with happy memories.
