Living on a hill in a rural village, I have just spent a happy half hour sipping a hot chocolate with a healthy dollop of rum in it, watching those drivers out in the snow trying to get up the slope.

Here's my question: who ever told these people that the best way to get up a hill in snow is to get in as low a gear as possible and accelerate like hell?

I got stuck several times before xmas in the ice and snow. Had to get OH to help me out. He reckoned he was going to send me on a drivering course as it was so eeeeaaassssy to get out... But then...HA! He couldn't do it either! So we borroed a bucket of grit from up the road and parked right at the top of the driveway and been ok since

Our road is pretty much the same Fi. It amazes me how fast they come down and how bad they are at getting up. I'll settle for the grog instead of a cake and leave the car on the drive.

Someone ditched a car opposite our house last night Harry. We noticed later that the interior light was left on, so we watched for them collecting it this morning to let them know the reason it wouldn't start. They were grateful and managed to contact some friends who brought jump leads. However, the driver's girlfriend wasn't in the good books as she'd turned on the interior light to check her make up before they abandoned the car and set off to walk!!

I got a little bit stuck picking Bean up from the childminders this afternoon. I headed home early as the snow started to really come down and my car's not exactly designed for the snow.

Anyways, childminder's house is on a bit of a hill and there were loads of cars parked all over. I couldn't see her drive, so I joined the rest of the cars (pointing downhill). When I came out, I noticed a car stuck further down the road being dug out - which cut off my route downhill.

I slowly turned the car round - sliding about in the process then headed back up the hill. Had to wiggle left and right like mad with the traction control light playing disco and eventually hit a bit of road where the salt had taken effect and we were off.

I've seen loads of people that would still be sat there now polishing the ice with wheels spinning.

My brother-in-law bought some snow socks for his car and he reckons they're cool.

Trousers had a natter over the front gate with Farmer Andrew this afternoon, and the snow plough had evidently cleared the main road at the bottom, from that village to the other, but the snow did drift still over the top of them damn hills, and now the road tis blocked again. And none of us are in the least bit surprised.... because there are cars abandoned all OVER the place!

Until we get driving conditions like this, we don't appreciate just how bad people's knowledge of driving actually is? No. I take that back wholeheartedly. I meant to say, that we do already. It just exaggerates their lack of knowledge.
How do these people get to pass their Driving Test I wonder....

Our car park at work seems to be a trap for some cars, but mainly BMWs apparently! Must be something to do with their weight and relative lack of traction, that or BMW drivers don't know how to 'feather' the throttle and just floor it, but they're wheel-spinning out there like Scooby-Doo being chased by a ghost!
