  • I don't know how I did it but I've lost 2lb since last week. OH in hospital and although the doc thinks things look positive after the op, he isn't out of the woods yet. DS is sick too and I just seem to be a yoyo on the road between them. The stress did get to me and I HAVE SINNED badly. Sugary jellies and crisps . Dread to think what the scales will say next week, but here's hoping I can get back on the straight and narrow. Your posts and advice are really encouraging.
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.

          • Fab piccy Wren - that looks so cool

I think I'm doing ok, haven't actually weighed myself but my recovery time after each walk is shorter now. Am attempting my first 8 miler tomorrow morning and my target is to do it in 3 hours.
Jeans feel a bit looser and thanks to the fresh air and exercise I feel like I have more energy too.
Did fall down a bit on snacks this week - especially late evening but have made my portions of meat and potatoes a bit smaller and eat more veg instead.
Legs and bottom feeling much much firmer!!!!!

              • Morning All you slimmers. I can't claim to have penned the poem myself, although I have fiddled with it a bit because it was a bit too American in its origin. I just couldn't resist letting you all see it! Feel free to use it where you will.

That's really good. Your stamina and strength will build up quicker than you think.

In a few weeks, if you want to burn even more: try a short run every now and again. Like, in between lampposts etc. It doesn't have to be far.
You'll be puffing like a train the first time, but you'll recover.

When I started running I couldn't even run to the first lamppost. I kept on, and built up my distance so that I was running 3 miles without stopping.

walking is good, but it needs to be out-of-breath walking to burn fat. Ambling round the shops doesn't work

                  • Believe me - I ain't ambling!!

I used a stopwatch to count how many steps I did per minute and my current walking pace is about 115 steps a minute. I get sweaty and heart rate definitely increases.
Going to dig out the gym ball and start using it to tone up tummy and do some upper body work.
It is lashing it down here today, but OH has waterproof trousers in the boot of his car so I'll be putting them on and going for it anyway
Breakfast will be poached eggs on toast and I'll take a large drink with me. As Boo hates being wet, she will stay home in the warm today.

                      • You need a Pedometer Kirsty, just clip it on and go.

                        • I have got one, but its not very good - so I'll pick up a better one on payday.

At the mo I use walkjogrun.net to plan routes in advance and follow them.

You cannot go wrong with a Pedometer by Omron. Far better han the cheap ones that reset very easy and are not that accurate at recording steps.

If you have an ipod touch/phone then iTreadmill does what you are doing.

                              Kirsty,

Have you tried :- Create a New Route

Designed to create runs, but walks work just as good.
