So how does that work then according to Atkins? To see a world in a grain of sand

I imagine that's not as popular a diet because it by Vegans but as it says high carb diets are linked to low rates of obesity & diabetes - its actually on a diabetes site - I wanted to know what the answer was.To see a world in a grain of sand

Nowadays I tend to eat a bowl of beans and/or feta & salad (or stirfry) with a small helping of carbs (rice or noodles), nice salad dressing. I make veggies the main act. Plenty of protein in those beans!
It's quite an Asian way of eating, in fact it's how food was served when I was in Singapore last year... lots of veg, not piles & piles of rice & bread. In Asia, obesity isn't as prevalent as it is in the Western world (or wasn't). Diabetes and heart disease are also very rare. Studies have linked this to the fact that Asian diets consist mostly of plant-based foods and are low in saturated fats.
I didn't mean to go on and on about Atkins, my point was more that cutting carbs down can really help with weight-loss.Last edited by Two_Sheds; 12-01-2010, 04:10 PM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

BMI only 'works' for people in the middle of 'normal height' range. A person 2m tall (6ft 6) weighing 120kg (just under 19st) has a BMI of 30, but may be a VERY fit athlete!
There is probably a genetic factor in how readily one can resist them temptation of enjoyable food, so to that extent, it IS genetic.
Me, I need to lose lots of weight, but I'm setting my target at ½st, until I get that far.
My problems are
a) limited won't power
b) a husband who likes all the nice things, and assumes they are for sharing (he needs to lose weight too, but tends to do so by not eating for a week, which I simply couldn't do if I wanted to)Last edited by Hilary B; 12-01-2010, 04:02 PM.Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

I'm leaving people to chose - I'm giving my opinion as you are yours - they have the choice, where have I denied them a choice? You seem to have a problem with anyone who disagrees with you?To see a world in a grain of sand

Getting back to the carbs thing. About once a month I really crave fats and carbs. At that point all I can think about is fish and chips, I actually start obsessing about it! I could do with losing a stone, would be happy with half. I have made myself go for a walk each day for the last week which was about a mile and thankfully most of the chocolate has gone now
For me I think some of the problem is bad body image. I am 5ft 1 and for a long time I was 7 stone so in my head I think I should still be that shape. The reality was that at that point in my life I was physically and emotionally quite ill. (for that read as mad as a fish!) I need to re educate myself about what is a healthy wieght for my size and accept that curves are acceptableWPC F Hobbit, Shire police
