I don't snack. Or if I do, I take the calories off a meal
There is no way on this earth that I could get from 5.30am to 10pm without at least a snack ... it tends to be a 'second' breakfast usually, about 10am
....I lost nearly two stone by portion control and cutting down on the alcohol I drank - I am moderate in what I eat (as a veggie) and I don't deny myself treats as I think that isn't a good idea...
I'm sure that anyone who eats for comfort is well aware of the psychological element. I'm not calling anyone a nutcase!
I would agree and it need not even be quite as much a matter of 'stress eating', or 'comfort eating'. We don't all find it equally easy to apply the necessary control to what we eat, and that IS psychological. Some people can cut down, and never think twice about it. Others have problems remembering the 'new regime' ALL the time.
For an alcoholic to stop drinking, they need to want to stop more than they want the next drink. For a smoker to quit, they need to want to quit more than they want the next ciggie. Sounds easy put like that, but I bet any ex-smoker or 'currently dry' alcoholic you ask would tell you that the theory is a lot easier than the practice, and some of us have a comparable problem with controlling our food intake. That IS where the likes of Atkins come in, to get you started.
If some folk can 'just eat less', great for them, but SOME OF US HAVE TROUBLE STICKING TO IT! It may not just be 'no will power' (or as I reckon it, won't power'), for some only a little will power is needed, and they soon get used to that, for others, life is a whole lot different!

No lunch?
when I say I don't snack, I mean I don't eat extras/treats.
I quite often split my lunch into 2 portions and have half of it at 11am break. Then at 3pm I might have an apple or something if my tummy is grumbling.
Dinner at about 7pm, then nothing till 8am*. I don't need it.
(OH skips brekky, then is ravenous at 10am so has a bacon sarnie. Big cooked lunch, big cooked dinner and then a huge bowl of cereal for supper and anything else 'picky' he can find. He takes no exercise).

Lucky lasses! Fortunately a hard-boiled egg does it for me around 9pm with a cup of tea, then a whisky before bed. Virtually no carbs in spirits - yee ha!

I suppose I eat brekkie at 6am, 2nd brekkie (snack) at about 10 ish....
Lunch at 1pm, tea approx 7.30pm then a suppery-snack about 8.30-9pm when I sit down.
Mr OWG is very similar to Mr TS it seems! No brekky at home, unhealthy brekkie at work. Soup for lunch, then snacks all afternoon. Eats tea then an hour before bedtime has cereal or toast. Utterly incapable of moderating his food intake - even more than me!!!

That's your problem - too many meals LOL
Still trying to get my head around brekkie at 6am - I'm still dead at 6am! I can't eat until I've been up at least an hour usually two. But by then I'm out and about, so brekkie just doesn't happen.
Lunch tends to be early if I've skipped brekkie, and then sometimes I'll have a second lunch mid afternoon. We eat late, which is only because it fits in with what we do.
I don't often snack, but I suppose I do have a reasonably good plateful, but certainly not huge. If I don't eat until I'm full then I WILL snack, and that usually means Cheese! I eat plenty of fresh veg, almost no processed food or take-aways, no crisps, sweets, cakes or biscuits, other than on rare occasions. Oh, and count me out of the Chip-butties, can't stand 'em!
Seriously, I think lack of exercise is an issue, kneeling down, weeding is not burning enough calories, and neither is sitting here chatting to you lot!
