  • Does anyone want to start a separate thread to list what they've eaten on a daily basis?

It may help if others can see where we're going wrong. I'm sure we all have odd little lapses, personally, I'm still finishing off a bar of Green & Black's that Mr. G bought. I couldn't decide whether to just eat it all, or have a little every day. I could have thrown it away I suppose, but I hate waste!

Maybe, if I had someone come on here and say "Oi fatty - put the bladdy choccy down!" it may help

          • Read an article in the Times about prune puree. Apparently when you're making cookies, muffins cereal bars etc you can replace a each gram of fat with a gram of prune puree. It has about 93 calories per 36g as opposed to 265 calories in the same weight af marg or butter. Therefore it lowers the fat and calorie content while boosting the fibre content also adds some iron and calcium. As a bonus the puree is pretty sweet so you may be able to cut back on sugar as well.
To make it you liquidise stoned dried prunes with 6tbsp hot water and blend to consistency of single cream.
Who's going to be brave enough to try it ?

Well, I don't know the science, but I've got an old Weight Watchers Christmas Cake recipe that uses prunes to replace the fat. It makes a really yummy moist cake.

Eating frequently is good for weight loss: every time you eat, you start up your metabolism. You just need to eat smaller portions so that your overall calorie intake remains the same

Me neither. I have a latte at 7am until my eyes stay open on their own, then a bowl of porridge. I don't ever want it, but I make myself, otherwise I feel all sick and giddy about 10am.
You could slip a cereal bar or an apple in your pocket, just so you have something in the morning to get your metabolism going.

Personally, I think you're going too long without food, and then eating too much because you're starving.

It takes your stomach 20-30 mins to realise you're full, which means people often eat more than they need. If you're not exercising, you need much less food than you're currently eating. When I say less food, I mean less (fewer) cals. Try having a bowl of soup or a glass of water first to fill you up.

Perhaps try eating two-thirds of your plate, then waiting. Have the other third if you're still hungry after the half hour has passed.

Cheese is the devil. Saturated fat, fat, fat. Do any of these diet swaps tempt you instead?

                      • When I couldn't eat dairy; the only thing that got me through many a pasta dish without cheese was a dollop of light mayo on top; it made it feel cheesy, without being dairy and just gave it that added extra. If anyone is trying to cut down, try a tad of that where you would normally sprinkle cheese on top; doesn't work with cheese on toast unfortunately.

Still trying to get my head around brekkie at 6am - I'm still dead at 6am! I can't eat until I've been up at least an hour usually two. But by then I'm out and about, so brekkie just doesn't happen.
I wish!! I'm up at about 5.30am, brekkie at 6am. Typically, before I set off for my actual job at 8.15am, I will have walked the dogs; 'done' the birds (feed, water, clean out), fed the dogs, sorted out our tea (from the freezer), done the chores (dishwasher, washing etc), made my own lunch and Mr OWG's lunch, fed myself, and got myself ready for work (dressed, hair etc).

That's why I eat at 6am and then again at 10am!!

That is one heck of a busy start to the day OWG

I wake around 6, fall out of bed around 0630, drink lemon and hot water, then a pot of fresh ground coffee at 0700 to replace the matchsticks holding the eyelids, then fall onto the cross trainer for 30 mins of aerobic punishing, breakfast at 0900 - then get to starting (paid for) work

I know! It always feels like I've done a days work before I sit at my desk!

Saying that, I probably do another 3 or 4 hours after work at night as well!!

                              • OWG - you should be thin as a stick!

I was up at stoopid o'clock today, as the Farrier comes at 7:30 so I have to get my A into G and get to the yard early. I did all my chores there, then came home for brekky at around 9.

We do have a treadmill, but it's in storage at the mo, because we've no room for it in this little box. (Although, I've just had a thought about that, so watch this space...)

TS - will you be my personal trainer - you're obviously so much better at this than me!

One of my problems (I'm full of excuses aren't I?!) is that I don't make my weight a priority. I'm incredibly lazy, and will put off anything I can get away with not doing. I think it's a rebellion thing, having been a slave to both the alarm clock and the telephone for the last 28 years, I'm now on a 'wind-down' when I should be making the most of having more time and no stress.

Plus it's that time of year, the 'low' between Christmas and Spring. I don't think I suffer from SAD, because I actually like Winter, but I still get this little urge to hibernate under the duvet.
