Glutton, just a thought, but could you swap your sugar for sweetener (you do get used to the difference after a while)? I put it in porridge and don;t notice the difference (don't have it in tea)
And what kind of milk do you use? If it's not skimmed and you switch you will be saving a few calories there too.
Also switch to light margerines - I now use clover light or some such other (whichever is on offer)

Sorry Janey, can't stand sweeteners, have tried before, they're just nasty and far too sweet. But I'd have thought with only drinking one cup a day I'm not exactly pushing it.
Unfortunately, I can't abide margarine either, reminds me of axle grease. As I'm not eating bread or biscuits I'm not using butter anyway. If I have bacon it's fried in its own juices, then drained (our grill is no good). I'll put the smallest amount in scrambled eggs, but with these lovely fresh eggs I can get away without.
Meat is browned in a little olive oil, and I don't use lots because if I do Mr. G will only come along and thicken the sauce with bladdy flour which I'm trying to avoid.
Update:
Just had two small glasses of Elderflower cordial because I'm thirsty. Coffee is going through me at the moment (had this problem once before, so gave it up) so I'm back on the cordial. I know I don't drink enough, and am trying to remedy that too, as I know dehydration is not good either.
I can hear the last bit of the G&B screaming at me from the cupboard, so you may as well add that to the list, even though I haven't actually eaten it yet. But, once it's gone it's gone.All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

When I am not actually in the kitchen, I KNOW half my weight problem is portion size. Unfortunately while dishing up and eating, I forget this point (and OH who moans if portions are 'proper size' is NO HELP AT ALL. His idea of eating less is to go without all day, and then eat a massive meal a couple of hours before bed). Until a few weeks ago I had some control because I used a smaller plate than he does, but it got broken, and we only had the one.....
Right now the other problem is all the nice things family gave us as Christmas presents!Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Portion control is a big problem for me - so I was much stricter tonight. Less mash, but an extra veg! We didn't even notice, plate was just as full and so am I!! Not such a bad day:
Weetabix with blueberries for brekkie
Banana snack
Scambled Egg on 1 slice wholemeal for lunch
Carrot and pear this afternoon
Casserole with mash, cauliflower, calabrese and runner beans
May treat myself to a small tot of Todka (amazing toffee vodka I found at the Eden project - it's like drinking the melted top off a creme brulee!)Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

The drinks thing seems to be a real problem for you. Good ideas from Two Sheds re fruit and herb teas. Do you drink ordinary tea? There are lots of options now - green and white teas and Rooibos. I have Earl Grey with soya milk as I have a milk intolerance, and luckily it has only 0.5g carb per 100mg so I can drink all I like, even on the induction course.
You can have as many fizzy drinks without sugar as you like, but it seems that all the sweeteners have some problem associated with them. Still, it might fill a gap once or twice a day.
Spirits have virtually no carb at all. I have a whisky before bed; it's good to feel indulgent when there are so many things I can't have!
Did I read in an earlier post that you were avoiding fat? As long as they are not saturated or trans fats you can have as much as you like. This might make things taste better and be more satisfying. I love butter and fatty meat, which is why this diet is not so hard for me as some are.
I've lost 6lb in one week, but have another 2st to go so I can't slack off!
I'll post my food diary each day.

Food Diary 13 Jan.
Slept in so no brekkie.
Lunch: tuna mayonnaise and 4 small tomatoes
Dinner: gammon steak with stir-fried peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, onion,
leek, garlic and chilli and lightly steamed broccoli. Had this in two
goes, 6pm and 9pm
Snacks: handful of pistachio nuts
Drinks: Tea with soya milk about 6 mugs.
Stomach seems to be shrinking as I can't eat as much as I used to at one go. Hooray, I'll take any and all the help that I can.Last edited by annacruachan; 14-01-2010, 09:11 AM.

I'm not avoiding fat, but I'm trying to avoid sugar (I still don't think 1/2 tsp a day is excessive) I gave up fizzy drinks after I read so much about them, although I'll occasionally have a G&T. I can easily go without the booze, apart from a couple glasses of Red at the weekend, so that's not a major issue. But I am having trouble with 'everyday' drinks. I went off Tea years ago, and I really don't like drinking plain water. For some reason it gives me indigestion, though I have no idea why. I do love milk though (whole milk, naturally) and can drink gallons.
