Building walls seems a little extreme... Can't you just get an exercise DVD like everybody else?

Well done on not snacking BTW

    • Basketcase. I can give up those things for weeks at a time (have done) and go without tea/coffee for the same time. I still want sugar in my coffee afterwards. I really can't see any point to drinking a lot of nasty coffee just in order to 'get used to it' (which is what it comes to), and yes, I know that isn't exactly a logical attitude, so who's logical ALL the time?
When I think of the time it would take at 1lb a week to lose the weight I need to shift, and remember how quickly it came back last time (with interest) at even slight relaxation, it feels like never having 'pleasure food' again is my only option, and if that isn't enough to send me to the chocolate box, nothing will!
Maybe I'll try it when Lent comes around, instead of giving up the wine.....

      • Two weeks today since I started Atkins and I've lost 9lb.
The encouragement of so many other grapes wanting to lose weight was a big factor.

How's everyone else doing? Let's share our experiences.

        • I'm averaging a 2kg loss each week at present.

Snacks are fine if they fall into the 60-80 calories each range. If eating fruit, eat an apple or a pear instead of orange or banana.

10,000 steps per day is the recommended exercise to help with weight loss, but why stop there - do a bit more if you can.
          I love growing tomatoes.

          • this is really inspiring me too! Have started back on the weights and exercise bike and have put a request on freecycle for a "real" bike so I can go for a cycle at lunchtimes from work too! Am back on Sparke People too, but not finding it all that stimulating - this is better!

            • Well folks, sounds like people are motivated!

I've lost a few pounds, I don't have scales, but my clothes are a lot looser. I'd like to say it's down to dieting, but probably due to the stomach bug I've had for the last week. I was on nothing but boiled water for one day! Luckily my stomach has shrunk, so I'm making the most of it with smaller meals, and I've started getting up earlier and having breakfast.

When I get round to finding my Atkins book I'll be better off, but I'm checking up info on-line in the meantime, which is helping.

I haven't had any coffee since saturday morning, drinking mainly water (I'm getting used to it ), although I have bought some decaffeinated fruit teas, which I'm trying. They smell delicious, but just taste like hot water - even with a smidgin of honey.

On Sunday evening I had one glass of wine with my roast Lamb, and I did have a couple of spuds and a yorkie pud, but that was the first day I had eaten, so I'm afraid I couldn't resist.

I'm on dog-walking duty at the moment, as my Mum's busted leg means she can't walk her dog, and my Dad's just gone down with that Novo Virus thing, so he's in bed with the shakes. All in all I'm feeling more positive too!

Right now though, I would kill for a huge cream cake, or sommat stodgy. But I'll be good and have an omelet instead!

              • I've just given OH's copy of Atkins to the library this morning, wish I'd have read your post first and I would have sent it to you.

I have first weigh in since back on track so wish me luck for tomorrow morning. Actually don't wish me luck as I know I will have lost this week as been more or less on track every day, and only over my points on 2 days and I blame OH for that, teasing me with chocolates!

Put on 6 lb since hurting my back in mid-nov so hoping to have shifted at least a pound this week.

                • I've lost 7lb, I've cut out all my sugar in drinks, I use sweeteners now I'm not keen on the taste but I had to start somewhere, I also bought a second hand exercise bike of a friend, so I try to do 3 miles a day, I've actually noticed my triple chin is going.

I put 2 bags in mine if they're a bit weak. Ribena made with hot water is nice too

                      That's good going!
You'll get used to the lack of sugar, in time. As you say, something has to give: if you change nothing, nothing will change.

I cycled 5 miles to school & back today, then did 25 mins of my exercise vid. Great fun, got all sweaty.

I wasn't allowed lunch until I'd done it. Then I had soup with one small roll instead of a big roll. I got out a pack of popcorn because I fancied something sweet - that was 3 hours ago and it's still next to me unopened. I'm going to put it away again and have another cuppa tea instead.

To motivate myself further, I've taken photos of my lardy backside on my phone. Whenever I feel weak or tempted, I look at that horrible picture. Please let me not ever lose my phone

                      • I just measured my thigh - it's the same as my waist used to be !

I've done well today, no cravings at all.
Porridge - yogurt - fruit tea - cereal bar - soup - small roll - jacket spud with beans & small bit of cheese (matchbox size). Popcorn went back in the cupboard: didn't really fancy it after I'd looked at my lardy bum pic

Fab idea -just need a phone with a wide-angle lens!

Another idea is to put a picture of a slim attractive person on the outside of the fridge, and a picture of a fatty on the inside - supposedly it works as a deterrent too!

                          • I try and avoid too many potatoes over a week, with no peas or corn at all.

The two things you'll find the most important part of any weight loss regime are proportioned meals and exercise, as one's no good without the other.

The most DIFFICULT part of any weight-loss regime is motivation!
I have a pretty good idea what I should eat, but maintaining that determination is another matter entirely!
For some it is a simple matter of deciding, others are not so fortunate, and have to KEEP deciding day after day in the face of remembering just how NICE those forbidden foods are!
