  • Felt good today, but lucky I was at home. My skirt just fell down when I was in the kitchen! Imagine that happening in front of a class of kids I had reached up to get something from a cupboard, it could just have easliy been to write on the board.
I hadn't made it to weigh in for 2 weeks because of after school meetings, so I was pleased to have a 3lb loss. Now on the way to 2st 7lb loss, but it's taken a year.
A good excuse for a couple of new skirts methinks.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

    • Brilliant, BarleySugar - give yourself a huge round of applause and methinks it is time for a new wardrobe? I cannot recommend the services of a 'personal shopper' enough - mine came free from Debenhams and I got a really good wardrobe of clothes to work with my new shape! Most of them were on sale too - so I felt really special with about half of what I was prepared to spend!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

      • Wayhey! Another 1lb gone!!! Could it be that it's all happening once again?

        • Barleysugar that's fantastic! You really demonstrate the necessity to keep at it and not expect miracles in just a couple of weeks. As Jeanie says, you deserve a whole new wardrobe!
Still 2 stone left for me to shift, so your post has given me new incentive and encouragement. Thank you.

          • Can I join in please. I need to lose 3 stone and struggling. I used to be a Weightwatcher, feel a bit brain washed. I have started today with a bowl of porridge, will be out most of the morning, but it is the evenings that do the damage with me. I need to sort myself out.

            • Well I lost another lb yesterday, but again I don't recommend the reason. This time it was pure stress. I'll post the details in a thread of its own, but it's pet-related.

Porridge is a great start. If you're bingeing in the evening, it's because you're not eating enough in the day (probably).
Skipping meals makes your body store fat too, because it thinks it's starving.
Luckily, every time you eat, your metabolism fires up - you just need to eat little & often.

Keep some healthy snacks on you (& in your car, your office drawer) if you get hungry.

To lose 1lb of fat a week, you need to be cutting back 500 cals a day: that's 250 cals off your food (3 or 4 biscuits) and 250 cals of exercise (about 1hr of walking or 20 mins of running every day)

                Roughly!

                • Morning all

I don't feel that I'm doing particularly well at the moment. My kidney problems are making my appetite etc see-saw all over the place... some days I'm not hungry at all, and some I'm ravenous... all sorts of food and drinks are causing me pain now... so some days I'm really good and some days I'm not!

I spent last night doing our monthly meal plan (and therefore the shopping list). Our new dishes for this month will be mutton curry (carribbean style), chicken pot pie, and pork and cider casserole.

Hopefully this month will see some further progress!

Don't let it get you down Liz. I'm exactly the same. My worst time is evenings too. In my case it's not because I haven't eaten all day, its because that's the time my brain goes into over-drive and I start mulling over the troubles of the world! That means stress, and stress means comfort eating.

Make sure you do eat properly during the day, and why not try occuping yourself with a new activity/excercise in the evening. It can help take your mind off food, and help with the weight loss too.
A good beginning is half the work.

                    • That's fantastic barley sugar...all power to your elbow...and to everyone else at teh start of another week. I had a very naughty (eating and drinking wise!) weekend with some fellow rugby supporters, beers and curries and all that. But managed to do quite a bit of walking and biking in between (just to keep the guilt down!!). Will see what happens at weigh in time on Friday....

Could you swap the odd beer for a lime & soda, or a spirit & diet Coke?

As for curries (yum) avoid creamy ones like korma, and never have naan bread - 100s of calories in that bad boy

Unless you're on the Atkins, then you can't have the Naan or rice, but as much curry as you want!

Watch out for coconut milk in some of the creamy curries, G4. A little is okay, but you could get carried away with the indulgence and consume quite a lot. There might also be some flour used for thickening. Of course, if you make it yourself you can be sure of what's in it.

                            • I'm butting in a bit, but have you SEEN what's in some cheaper coconut milk? Tesco sent a cheap replacement for the Amoy I usually buy, and it tasted dire. Full of rubbish too, which surprised me as, naively, I assumed it was more or less coconut milk. I now use pure coconut block, shave or melt off what I need and dilute it. Flavour's much nicer, I think, and you can add just a little if you're watching calories etc. but want the flavour.

                              • I really should have swapped at least a couple of beers for lime and soda TS, but once the rugger gets under way it all goes down hill very quickly! Plus, when you've got a welshman being smug next to you drinking welsh beer and wearing daffodils, you've got to drown your sorrows some how! The curries weren't too bad as I made them from scratch and left out most of the oil and other baddies. Only had 1/4 of a small naan bread too. Back on track now though, and no rugby this weekend.

Gd tip about the coconut block Rhona, will do that next time.
