ho hum.....back to the drawing board then.....on the plus side, I'm wearing a work shirt which I haven't been able to for 4 months due being a chuffer!! And it's quite loose! Thanks for your help guys....
Sorry Mac, I thought you weren't doing Atkins?
I'm a veggie, so I do my own modified version of a low-carb diet. Basically a bowl of veggies (raw or stir-fried) with kidney-type beans and salad dressing. Sprinkle of nuts for texture. A little bit of rice or noodles if I feel hungry.
Hi Two Sheds, sorry, I'm sounding really contradictory..I'm not doing the Atkins, but do want to cut down on my carbs. So I'm not having as much bread, spuds, pasta etc...but am having fruit and carrots etc.. The pusles/lentils etc...were going to be my easy sub for spuds/pasta, but if they're also really high on carbs then that would be a bit daft. Again, sorry to be so confusing, but I've been trying to find the "easy" answer online but it just aint there! Will probably just go through a bit of trial and error. Thanks for all your help though.

I use them as a substitute for meat. They are almost a complete meal in themselves:
A typical nutritional breakdown for dried haricot beans (baked beans)
is about:
45% carbohydrate
25% fibre
21% protein
2% fat
with also iron, calcium & vitamins
Soya beans would be the lower-carb option, at 21% carbs.
Sis came over today and we went out and walked together. Was nice to have company, and we did 6.5 miles in 2 hours. Got rained and snowed on, but thankfully, we worked up a sweat so didn't feel cold!
Weighed myself and while the scales have stayed the same, I bumped into a friend who said it looks as though i've lost weight. Which was nice. Perhaps I'm getting a bit more toned now.

The Atkins website says to subtract the fibre from the total carbs to give what they call digestible carbs. The rest just goes straight through I guess! That makes beans a much easier option if you're not doing Atkins.
Just like to say how positive and supportive this thread is.
I recently joined a diet website and while the tools and charts and everything are great I can't believe how banal the posts are (won't say which site).
"OMG - i ate chocolate now I feel terrible" etc, etc, etc.
I had a bag of chips on Wednesday but I'm not about to throw myself off a bridge over it.
Maybe it's because people on this site have got an outside interest, and probably a better idea of healthy eating.
Had a 20 min run in the sleet & wind this morning before breakfast, get me. Felt really good when I stopped! Energetic, skin glowing, virtuous, smug.
toast - jkt spud, beans - soup - no booze

We know, we know, bubblewrap! I bet you're one of those skinny whippets who just love to poke fun at those of us who are addicted to sweet things. Not fair!
