  • Hey TS - good work re the thighs! I'm noticing a definate loss and firming of various areas too! Re. the IBS and dairy thing. A friend of mine has had IBS for years and gave up dairy last year, she says the difference has been amazing. Not totally cured, but a lot better than she used to be.

    • Hum, I'm puzzled and annoyed this morning...

At the weekend, I started exercising properly, and still eating healthily... however, come Monday morning (and today), my work trousers, that were just getting loose last week, are so tight I can't wear them

According to the scales (and my official weigh day isn't until tomorrow) I've put on 3 lbs since last week, despite eating well and starting exercise

It's not my 'time of the month', cos I don't have them, so I'm a bit annoyed that my weight has gone up

Any ideas? Will it even itself up eventually?

      • Lost 2lb this week. I can only assume it's connected with the giving up of alcohol for Lent. Not that we drink much, but the odd glass of wine and its associated calories obviously counts!

          Zazen has said the same.
Thinking about it, actually I do get cramps straight after my morning latte (I always thought it was the coffee, not the milk). I don't eat much dairy anyway, apart from milk in tea/coffee and on porridge.

I'm trying it for a week to see if it makes a difference. I'm having black drinks, and dry crunchy cereal (which I prefer anyway), and no butter on my toast (which is good for my thighs).

          Win-win, as they say.

My dad now uses rice milk in his cereal and finds he feels much better for it. I use dairy free spread and soy milk (OH liked it straight away and he likes to stick to what he is used to) Found you can bake, cook fine with dairy free. Not 100% dairy free as I can't go without real cheese, just ltd how much I eat.

Sure it'll sort itself out. COuld be:
are you bloated from something youve eaten? Muscle is heavier than fat. I remember WW leader in past saying sometimes if you exercise too much you can actually put on weight or stay the same

that's odd. If it was just the 3lb I'd say the scales might be wrong, but if the trousies are tight ...?

Are you watching your drinks? Calories in drinks, sugar etc.

You could well be bloated in your tummy (I've discovered that dairy does it for me)

              • I've just had a 25 min run/walk along the beach, on the sand. Twas lovely, very um breezy.
the sun has now come out, just like after my last run. I must do it more often.

Mr TS has called from abroad, he reckons he's lost 11lb in a week.... but he does tend to exaggerate. I suspect that when he gets back home to his couch and his remote control, he'll find those 11lb again

I'm currently only drinking water, weak cordial or the occasional cup of tea (cos of my kidneys), so I'm hoping it's not that....

Maybe I've got a bit of water retention, or it's just my body panicking cos of the exercise

I'll try and wait it out and see if it goes away in a few days...thanks grapes

You don't say what type of excercise you've been doing, but if it's a fair bit or you were previously doing nothing at all, I'd say there's a fair chance you're gaining muscle. If you've started doing sit-ups or similar your muscle could actually be pushing your fat out (sorry!!) hence your trousers feel a bit tight.

Stick with it and it'll sort itself out.

After New Year I was 12 stone 8 of fat with very little muscle as I'd been taking the car to work for over a month prior to Christmas and the weather was so bad over Christmas and New Year I barely went out.

I started eating healthily and walking every day to work plus 10 mins of weights every evening about 2nd week into January. I've only lost 4 1b so far but I feel much firmer, though I haven't dared try any of my too tight stuff on yet.

I know that if I carry on, eventually I'll reach an optimum muscle weight for the excercise I'm doing and the weight should really start to shift.

                    Hang in there!

                    • I do quite a bit of physical day-to-day work, that I don't really count as exercise, e.g. toting 25kg feed sacks around, walking the dogs etc

However, on Saturday I did a 2 mile road run, a 3 mile walk on Sunday and a further 1.8 mile run last night.....

Ooohh, if my fat would just push off, instead of out, that would be great!

                      • Coming a bit late to this thread but I would like to lose a stone this year. Last year I managed to lose 1.5 stone by being careful what I ate rather than cutting things out, so I'm hoping more of the same will do the trick this year.

I'd like to be able to wear some lovely summer dresses this year (should make gardening interesting ) instead of my baggy t-shirts and loose fitting shorts/skirts. Not interested in being a stick insect - voluptuous would do me nicely .

                        Reet
                        xx

Only if you're doing something very wrong.
If you're doing any kind of "sit up" you should be pulling your stomach in to your belly button as you go.

                            • After six weeks on the induction phase of Atkins, and having lost 11lb, I have now changed to the Ongoing Weight Loss, or OWL, phase. This means that I add 5g carbs to my daily intake, increasing by the same amount each week until I stop losing weight. That will give me my Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing, or CCLL. As I seem to be on a plateau anyway this may be hard to assess! It will be possible, however, to prevent weight gain. Ideally I would like to lose 2lb a week to be sylphlike () for a wedding in early May, but realistically it's more likely to be 2lb a month! I could have stayed with the induction phase but it was getting boring and I found myself craving all sorts of naughties!

Thought this might be helpful for anyone else on Atkins, or considering it. For younger people it is worth remembering that at my age it is not easy to lose weight anyway, so they will do much better than me; and, of course, men lose so much more easily, and faster, than women! Grrr!

Only because their inefficient metabolism causes them to release energy more quickly than women do (probably a hunter-gather/caveman thing!) And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Come the End of the World - when food's scarce -they won't be so smug!!

Well done on the weight loss BTW.
