  • This Atkins business all sounds far too complicated for a bear of very little brain like me! Think I'll stick to WW Points.

Lost 2 lbs last week - making a total of 8lbs since I started on 26 January

Each to her own, basketcase. Living on a small island off the coast of west Scotland with the latest ferry at 6pm I can't get to WW, or any other slimming programme. Atkins really suits me since I love fat and the chemistry fascinates me. Also adding 5g carbs a week means that I can ring the changes on my 5g each day. It panders to my OCD! I know it's not for everyone.

Well done for your 2lb loss.

            • I've also discovered a great little pud, or breakfast if you prefer. I mix 2 teasp wheat bran with 1 teasp Splenda and 2 tbsp single cream. Heaven! Put my blueberries in this today. Yum.

              • At WW last night I met a woman who joined in June last year, and has already lost 99lb She said she lives for Tuesdays when she can meet with people who encourage her to keep at it, rather than try to tempt her with food she doesn't want to eat. She says it's the same at work and at home, so she's doing really well. Her sister started to come with her, but has given up, and is now one of the worst culprits. I think support from family and friends can be thin on the ground, and I am very lucky in my support network.
I've been going for exactly a year, and have lost 31lb . I am pleased with the loss, and the fact that I've kept it up so long, but I've still got quite a way to go. Still 7 inches off the waist, 5 off the hips and 3 off the bust means there is now a faint shadow of a figure I haven't seen for a number of years. I've finally worked out how to change my goal weight online, and track my measurements
I find writing down, or in my case tracking on the computer, is a great way of keeping aware of what I put in my mouth. I've just 're-discovered' sugar free jelly. My favourite is orange with tinned mandarins in the bottom I think, although the raspberry with peaches is good too.

I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

                • wow 99lbs! Good going on your weight loss too, but I think it's the inches that mean even more. I dont like jelly but I remember from my student days you can make it with lemonade (or booze) for a change.

                    No offence meant Anna

As you say, whatever suits. I'm dyscalculate, so the fewer numbers involved, the better!

                    • Well done on the weight loss BarleySugar! Fortunately, my offspring are - on the whole - really supportive. (Although my son did act on the thought that I "needed feeding up to keep my sugar levels steady" when I was ill

                      • Day 4 of my dairy-free existence (except that I had a yogurt for school snack y'day, because I had nothing else prepared). I got wind almost immediately. I really hope that dairy has been the cause of my IBS all these years, what a simple fix.

I used to love my morning latte, but a black coffee with half a sugar is OK too.
I've lost an inch off my waist (less bloating?)

Thirty years ago I discovered that I was sensitive to pasteurised milk protein. Cream and butter were okay in small quantities, but I couldn't take milk. IBS was not the problem; I had arthritis-like pains in my joints, and had in fact been told that this was arthritis. However they disappeared completely once I changed to soya.
It seems that with milk, wheat and probably other allergens different people react differently to them and they are suspect over a whole range of mysterious symptoms.
Glad you're finding your IBS diminishing, TS, and congratulations on the inch. It represents more than the weight loss and is great for your self-esteem.

                              • At last! Another 1lb gone! Woohoo!!!

The last 4lb have gone painfully slowly and I want to thank you all for keeping me on the straight and narrow. Without all the encouragement from other vines I'd have given up long ago.

                                THANK YOU!
