I wear two pairs of socks when I go out & wear bed socks & have a hot water bottle (in a furry cover) in bed at night. I've even been throwing my dressing gown over the top of me in bed as well!

Probably from a bill /money point of view Bramble, but it's toastie! Strange thing, I have no problem being out in it, but I like to be warm indoors and I cannot stand to feel a draught at all. Ooooh dear, does that mean I'm getting old?!!!

Boiler gave up Thurs night - saintly plumber came 8am Fri morning as we were due to go away and advised us to leave it on, ticking over at about 16 degrees to keep everything working.
It's only a couple of years old, one of the efficient condensing boilers - the condensation overflow pipe froze when the weather thawed a fraction and the heating actually switched off for a few hours. Apparently it's not uncommon

that's not good. Where's your thermostat? Ours is portable: the front room is 13C without heating, but only 9C where my chair is next to the window.

Our main entrance door doesn't fit very well (it's a converted chapel with original chapel door) so we fitted a thick curtain across that door mid-December. It makes a big difference. Porch is already similarly curtained off.

CH doesn't have a central thermostat, each rad has its own valve. But according to the weather station, indoor temp is around 17 most of the day.

During the cold weather, I light the fire in the living room around 6pm. CH goes off at 7.30, then we're just keeping the one room we're actually in warm by burning logs which are the waste from a fence replacement last year.

Oh yes- my granny used to have heavy curtains hanging over her doors back in the 'old days'
I'm thinking I may do this too here as it's so draughty ( even the plug sockets have a draught coming out of them!!!!)

I had three of the grandchildren to stay for the weekend. Lovely warm cuddly little bodies - shame they can't behave when they're awake.

Well, well well there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my thermostat. I havn't felt unhappily cold yet this winter. I must admit to having the rads on medium in most living rooms apart from the bedroom where the rad is still off and the window just a little open. In a warped sort of way I enjoy feeling a bit chilly in bed. Somehow my metabolising steps up and I begin to glow. That's when I throw the covers off again. And, that's when I hear moans and groans from tother half.

That must have been lovely Rusty, you could rent them out as 'human hot water bottles'! I forgot to add that coaxing the cat to sleep on your knees keeps them warm too, ours is very snuggly!
