My son had very severe eczema right through babyhood and childhood - I found the strong creams would sometimes work briefly, only to have it come back as bad or worse than ever. He missed loads of school, either through not being well enough to go or because he could get so itchy in class that he would be allowed to go home.

When he was 15 I came across Bio Energy Therapy and he had a good number of sessions. I can honestly say he never looked back.

This is an 'alternative' or 'complementary' therapy, non-invasive and the practitioner did not require him to believe in it, the only thing she asked was that he would drink plenty of water.

He's now 22 and still has eczema - but only to a much less extent, and he handles it easily enough with Emulsifying Ointment and occasional use of 1% HC cream.

He still avoids dairy products, both because they definitely seemed to aggravate the eczema situation and because he's never liked them anyway.

I know not everyone would go for this type of therapy, some friends have said he would have got better anyway, but I believe Bio Energy certainly worked for him.

I know which I'd choose, given a choice between steroid cream or George Clooney !

(Although luckily I don't need the latter, as my OH is my perfick man, sigh - and after 22 years an' all...)

Has anyone tried Eurax cream? It stops itching for up to 10 hours. I have had eczema for several years and find this cream gives great relief from the dreaded itch.

I'm fortunate I'm not a sufferer, but my nephew does he has bad bouts from Atopic Eczema, he uses a product called Oilatum (link below), he too gave up dairy when he started with an allergy to it and the change was amazing, he still uses his Oilatum but not as much as he did when he was having dairy. You can get it on prescription.

We here can just buy Eurax over the counter as a prescription isn't needed. It is good though.

Pruritis drives me nuts, it's linked to my blood disease leukaemia things and is one of the main symptoms pre-diagnosis. It's always triggered by hot water, baths and showers but when the condition advances a bit, it starts itself and when it's as far on as mine is, it's one of the most painful things imaginable, like hot metal running through my veins and then crawling out to my skin - and the itching is just crazy.

I actually take medication to help stop it but back it up with Eurax and aloe vera lotion or cream which also seems to help.

Mine is so bad I can cut thorugh the skin with my nails to stop it and have often felt like digging it out with a knife. A couple of people I used to know in the US, through a forum for people with MPDs, have actually killed themselves because the itching has become overwhelming.

I also find that Simple soaps/shampoos etc help greatly as does anything in the Sanex range, including their roll on deodorant.

My nephew had it really bad a s a child , if he got wet and didnt dry, his clothes would stick to his body and end up peeling his skin off. His nose was the worst place and it looked like a bit of mouldy cheese, it turned out he was being bullied at school and by kids in the village. Now it only flares up when he is stressed.
My daughter has mild eczema and it has flared up again recently. As a small child she had something like oilatum in the bath and aquoes cream. If it was bad she had something else and really bad some jelly like stuff sorry cant remember the names. Now she uses e45 and she also has doublebase cream.

                                and ends with backache
