Breadmakers; are they the devil?

My great, great grandfather was a baker in the mid-1800s employing some 26 people. I had hoped that some of his obvious talent would have filtered through the gene pool but, sadly, all my attempts to hand make bread have produced results which wouldn't look out of place in a brick catalogue!!

So a few weeks ago I bought a Panasonic breadmaker and the results have been fantastic. I tried a slice of supermarket bread the other day - it was totally tasteless. So home made bread from here on.
