Bless you NSB. What a wonderful person you are. I was in absolute pieces for days after I hit a fox in the fog. The Staffie knew you were trying to help it. It would have made a big difference to its last moments on this earth.

The driver didn't necessarily know they'd hit the dog. If their stereo was on loud, they may have noticed a small bump but nothing more.
After all, drivers hit cyclists and don't even know they've done it.

I've also been knocked off my bike and injured by dogs running loose.

The blame for this accident is 50/50 on driver & dog owner, in my eyes.

Poor NSB is the one that had to pick up the pieces though, so to speak.

I was going to post something similar yesterday TS, but when I re-read it it didn't sound right so I didn't post it. But I was thinking the same as you.

Years ago, in our village a man and his little son (aged around 6, I guess) were playing with their little puppy (aged about 10-12 weeks) in their front garden which opened onto the road. The puppy ran straight out and under the wheels of my car. I caught a glimpse of something black and a bump. Naturally I stopped. I've never felt so awful in my life. I cried for hours.

Sometimes it is not the driver's fault.

Thanks for asking, still quiet, Ive been wanting a dog for ages and its making me angry that I seem to be involved with other peoples dead animals and were not having the joy of our own dog! bit weird really. the OH thinks hes done something wrong as im quiet. I wish it was spring then I could go in the garden, I always relax when im pottering in the garden.

Hope you feel better soon. I just re-read my post from yesterday, and it sounds very one-sided, and I'm sorry, I didn't mean it to. Life has a strange way of testing us doesn't it? Can you not have a dog of your own?

Doing a catchup on this thread I too had thought of airing another aspect but you beat me to it.
Not so many years ago dogs roamed free. There presence on the roads did cause accidents and their presents left on the pavements also did a lot of damage. Owner control legislation, since then, has made the streets safer. Any animal that is in our care should not be allowed access to busy roads. On the other hand if we cause pain and injury to another, whether it be our fault or not, surely compassion should take precedence.
