I find it slightly offensive that they are targeting "younger gardeners, or those new to gardening" - which I consider myself to be.

Younger and less experienced than the "traditional gardener" I may be, but it doesn't make me daft and naiive which is the demographic the programme seemed to be aimed at in my opinion.

Evolution rather than revolution I think may be the answer they are looking for. Much like a garden in fact - let things develop.

I hope Toby and the rest of the presenters stop the forced "pally"-ness. The format of the programme wasn't the only problem as I saw it.

In my humble onions of course.

Don't be offended hun - what they really meant to say was 'we cocked up'

Many younger-than-me gardeners are better than me, some older ones are not

I think you've pretty much hit the proverbial nail on the head there, Wayne. I consider myself to be a bit of an inexperienced gardener (learning all the time, mainly from the Vine or from mistakes) and there are some basic things that I'd like to see and hear in GW - but not in the patronising way it was being dished up in the last series. I'm not 5 years old - I will understand.
I quite liked the idea of the pally-ness but it was so forced as to be cringe-making.
On a positive note, I do think they unearthed a star in Alys - I just felt she didn't belong in GW, so if she's to have her own series, that's great.

...but again, Alys was nurtured during Monty's tenure. Allowing her to set down strong roots. Then they shifted her straight into full sun and she suffered a bit.

Well, if it happens fine but I'm still to be convinced. As for Alys, she always seems to be teaching Granny to suck eggs and a lot of her whizzo ideas a lot of us have been doing for a long time - what they need is to get proper gardeners, not people with big gardens or posh gardens or Yellow Book gardens or celebrity gardeners on there (including professional celebrity gardeners) to get back to basics, not patronise people.

If they do change I may give it a whirl but to be honest, would rather be out in the garden in the spring/summer/autumn that watching GW now.

It was all the 'dumbing down' I objected too. I am all for getting more people interested in gardening - heck, I do nothing but bang on about it at work (trying to convert the unbelievers), but there's no need to turn it into a programe for the under fives.

I have only started watching it and never saw it when Monty Don was presenter.

Hopefully it will get better now & I might be tempted back to watch or at least record it especially as it's going back to half an hour. I felt they were just struggling to fill it when it was one hour long & not getting in enough about 'what to do now' etc.

Nothing to be ashamed of - it takes all sorts to make a World. Highlights the problems the BBC have. Can't please all the people all the time, and with a diverse audience it's made more difficult.

I wondered if they might create a programme with the focus on growing produce - there aren't that many gardening programmes of any sort are there on mainstream TV. (I don't have Sky so maybe am missing a goldmine of info!)
