I have a rhodesian ridge back and as much as ive not had a minutes peace to myself in 6 years, she is my constant companion, she's very good with my niece who is 7 months old. My sister has two chocolate labs (mother and daughter) and they are amazing with the baby, and my niece just laughs and giggles all the time at them and follows them with her eyes everywhere (she crawled for the first time on Saturday). She loves them and doesnt even flinch when they bark at the postman!

Noises are still being made about getting a dog.
There is usually nobody home on a Monday morning, Wednesday afternoon and all day on a Friday - though I can pop home at lunch time (any potential burglars reading this - be warned, our neighbours are always there, and very, very vigilant).
Anyone reckon it would still be ok to get a dog?A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

The first couple of weeks while you're house training and getting used to each other it is useful to be there most of the time. At the most I'd leave a young dog 4 hours. Sometimes Jake now gets left for longer but he is 6 now . Do you have nice neighbours who could pop in ?S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

Some old neighbours of ours were often out all day, leaving their dog home alone. They popped back at lunch time and gave him a quick walk but that was about it. They were also convinced the dog was fine, it wasn't and whined a lot while they were out. Personally I'd not be happy leaving a dog at home all day which is the main reason I don't have one. I know it can work out OK but you don't know until you've tried it and by then it can be too late.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
