Albery Dog Rescue - giving loving homes for all breeds of dogs.

Buster looks good - interesting to see that they all say older children/teenagers only. Sensible on their part I guess.

I suspect a lot of rescues have a no children/older children policy. When you're ready, might be worth giving them a ring to check whether it's a blanket policy, or actually they will look on a case-by-case basis

It's sensible, and understandable with the recent cases that have made the headlines.

Much as I'd love to get a rescue dog, I think it's easier and fairer with Bean to get a pup. I know from friends' experience that they have a dog who has grown up with their kids, and he's the softest thing you've ever seen (huge black labrador).

We're working on Andi at the moment...he's never had a dog and sees them as a tie
Only problem is,we've almost got him....just only if it's a Jack Russel(rat catcher)
I'm sure there's lots of lovely ones out there but after a couple of not so nice experiences when I was younger with them,I'm not keen
If(or when) we do get one I'd prefer it to be a puppy.I'd have more trust in a dog with the kiddies if we've trained it right from the start.
                  Good Luck Wayne.
I think as long as you go with a breed that doesn't need constant stimulation and it gets ample exercise when you are home, your hours sound OK.
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

Our dog daisy, we adopted her as a puppy from a rescue centre, she needed alot of attention and time to house train, you go through teething with them, exploring how things work, what to eat and not to eat!! Very inquisitive, she is a collie cross.
Lots of time spent giving her cuddles, getting her used to being on her own at night as she cried when we went to bed, we had to work through all of this just as you do with a baby.
Puppies are very hard work but well worth it in the end.
Rescue centres do not as far as I am aware have a blanket policy on older children/no children, they just know the dogs they are re homing and know what is best for the dog so it will not be housed with noisy children which may cause it stress.
Dogs Trust is where we adopted Daisy from, they are well worth a visit.
I throughly recommend a cross breed as they do tend to be soppy and take the best bits from both breeds.
                    Good luck.

How exciting Wayne, I have just got my 6 month old Shih Tzu Soo-Ki last week and she is adorable. Very laid back and well behaved and settled well. We can only have dogs which don't moult as my son has a number of allergies. I always had Yorkies before and everyone has their own favourite breed. Post those pics when you get your dog.
