Credit crunch food shopping

Hi there
One of my neighbours came round last night with these two websites to look at:

Food Bargains, Buy Cheap Food & Drink, Bargain Out of Date Food, Clearance Food UK and Welcome to Approved Food | The biggest online seller of clearance food and drinks

I just wondered if anyone had tried it? They all seem to be food products that are near their best before date from major supermarkets that are knocked down hugely price wise. Obviously there are no fresh food products, mainly tins, packets etc. where they cannot actually go off but might lose some of their flavour.
One of the sites says its a way of recycling food that supermarkets would just bin otherwise. In principal it sounds like a good idea.

Thanks for the link SR I will send them to my son at uni..I am sure him and his housemates will be really interested.
I had a quick look - some stuff looks ok, but quite similar price to Lidl and in come cases more expensive. Also the delivery cost adds to the price.

I like the idea of using up stuff by selling on, rather than landfills. However why dont the supermarkets/companies donate it all to a worthwhile relief effort?

I've sent it to my daughters too. I think my neighbours idea was if we all clubbed together we could have say one delivery a month.
I agree with you, you would think the supermarkets would donate it, especially if its just being chucked out anyway.

I gather some supermarkets give 'can't sell it before it's out of date' food to shelters for the homeless and such. Good idea!

I can recommend B&M Bargains for cheap packaged -end of line - nearly out of date food...

A really good idea but no use for us I'm afraid. The first thing I saw on the page was 'highlands 10.50 delivery charge'.

Undecided on this. Do I want to lower myself by eating out of date food when I can get really fresh produce from the allotment? One seems to negate the other............or is it just me?
