If you can put it where people don't brush up against it then you could try a phormium or new zealand flax plant - the purple one would look good with that blue or the light green varieties / variegated would give you a good colour contrast
this is the first link when I searched on google
Phormium tenax purpureum - New Zealand Flax
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

                Hi Bren,

Yes it does look nice, contrasts well with the green pot and coal bucket, painted yesterday as well
                Cheers

Sweet pot and it looks great planted up too.

Freecycle sucks*! It's all about Realcycle for me.

                  * Because the insist on splitting Manchester up along the local council boundary lines for completely nonsensical reasons. One of which being "envirnomental". It's not environmentally sound for me to walk, ride or drive half mile from my house to get or deliver an item - but it's fine for someone from south Manchester to drive TWELVE miles to the same place. Instead I've got to offer things to people living up to EIGHTEEN MILES AWAY before I can offer things to my own neighbours!
The same stupid scenario is in place along every local council boundary in the whole of Greater Manchester.
I've contacted the administrators/moderators (never could get to the bottom of which it was) and discussed the situation at great length and got so much b******t I could grow enough spuds to supply every chipshop in the land all year around!

Realcycle? FAR more sensible. I offer an item and everyone between Ramsbottom and Wilmslow... Walkden and Glossop can ask for it. I can choose to give it to locals, to the first asker or to the first from a hat.

As for the concept of passing things on rather than chucking it in a hole in the ground though - wonderful! I've met some really nice people through real/freecycle too.

I've got 3 near ones... the one I live in and 2 within half a mile.
You can only join one as your "primary" area and anything you offer must go on there first... then after a week or so you can offer it on the others. Useless if you want to shift something quickly but can't offer it to over 2 thirds of the people within a reasonable distance (from what I can tell, most people won't go all that far to get something anyway) who might take it.

The moderators check the posts to make sure they are going in the right areas in the right order too.

I'm not setting up 2 extra email addresses and lying about my location to get around their fundamentally stupid system which is more work than one big area would be (even though they cite workload as another reason to keep it as is - not a brain to share between them it seems like!)
