"These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms"
can't think of any one, but how about 'greensleeves', for sheer timelessness; 'alas my love you do me wrong, to cast me off discourteously' at least 500 years old, and still as relevant today!
Personally I think Noel Gallagher has written some very good songs with some exceptional lyrics.....but a favourite of mine is from "D'you know what I mean"
I met my maker, I made him cry
And on my shoulder he asked me why
His people won't fly through the storm
I said "Listen up man, they don't even know you're born"
Okay, this is a spin off from Wayne's 'Best Phrase' thread.
What's the best song lyric ever...
Mine is a Jack Johnson from 'Better Together':
I love this song, it was played to my and my, then fiance, when we hit really hard times by a close friend..... we then has it played while we signed the register at our wedding in Jan
He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot
Though goodness knows he didn't want a lot
He wrote a note to Santa for some soldiers and a drum
It broke his little heart when he found Santa hadn't come
In the streets he envies all the other boys
Then wanders home to last year's broken toys
I'm so sorry for that laddie
He hasn't got a daddy
He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot
Altogether now, a one, two, three, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I love this song, it was played to my and my, then fiance, when we hit really hard times by a close friend..... we then has it played while we signed the register at our wedding in Jan
I'm glad there's another Jack Johnson fan out there Munch
Not the whole song (some of it is very weird), but
"Limitless undying love that shines around me like a million suns, and calls me on and on, Across the Universe"
has to be one of the most inspiring bits of lyrics ever written.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
So, fly me home, sweet wings of morning,
Fly me home to where my heart will ever be.
In my dreams I hear you calling,
Dublin town is where I long to be.
I am a huge fan of Ska music,This is from a song called Skinhead by Laurel Aitkin
when a skinhead walks down the street...
every chick heart skips a beat...
when a skinhead walks down the street..
every chick heart skips a beat..
the cheapman said : you lookin good...
in your braces and bovver boots...
