My Old Man by Joni Mitchel

      My old man
He's a singer in the park
He's a walker in the rain
He's a dancer in the dark
We don't need no piece of paper
      From the city hall
      Keeping us tied and true
      My old man
      Keeping away my blues

He's my sunshine in the morning
He's my fireworks at the end of the day
He's the warmest chord I ever heard
Play that warm chord, play and stay baby
We don't need no piece of paper
      From the city hall
      Keeping us tied and true
      My old man
      Keeping away my blues

      But when he's gone
Me and them lonesome blues collide
      The bed's too big
      The frying pan's too wide

      Then he comes home
And he takes me in his loving arms
And he tells me all his troubles
And he tells me all my charms
We don't need no piece of paper
      From the city hall
      Keeping us tied and true
      No, my old man
      Keeping away my blues

      But when he's gone
Me and them lonesome blues collide
      The bed's too big
      The frying pan's too wide

      My old man
He's a singer in the park
He's a walker in the rain
He's a dancer in the dark
We don't need no piece of paper
      From the city hall
      Keeping us tied and true
      No, my old man
      Keeping away my lonesome blues

You fill up my senses like a night in a forest
Like a mountain in spring time, like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses, come fill me again ..........

            I'll be loving you, always
with a love that's true, always.
            When the thing you've planned
            needs my helping hand,
            I will understand,
            Always

The days may not be fair, always
But that's when I'll be there, always
            Not for just a second,
            or a minute,
            or an hour,
            Not for just a weekend
and a shake down in the shower,
            Not for just the summer
            and the winter going sour,
            But always.

Oh. I see. He's got a sandal but the weather forecast is 'changeable' so he wants a cardi to be on the safe side?

Actually my random 'ability' is to be able to remember the lyrics of any song, as soon as I've heard it. Totally photographic, but can't apply to any other thing, just lyrics of songs. It's also slightly embarrassing when you find yourself singing a really cr*p song word-perfect, as everyone assumes you love it. I also never forget a single word and can summon up any song immediately.

I've been able to do it since I was about four, and is freakish, but utterly, utterly pointless...

Of course, if you paint your palette blue then you might get taken to court these days.

                              First time I shot her,
I shot her in the side
                              Hard to watch her suffer
But with the second shot she died.

This is a very annoying thread!

I have lots of favourite songs, but when I've gone and looked up the actual lyrics (not the words I always sing), they aren't very inspiring....
